Re: An offshore capable trailer boat ?
River Tyne - Newcastle-upon-Tyne wind forecast. Detailed wind speed and wind direction information as well as interactive graphs for winds
Willy Weather Blue is forecast but you have to be careful the forecast is dynamic. When you look at 0600 wind at 1200 may be 10 knots, you then look at 1800 and the forecast plot for 1200 may have change to 15 knots.
Obviously the closer to the true time the forecast becomes more accurate and the blue plot line is always the most recent forecast. I am a visual person and like to see a 3 day graph of the wind rather than a whole bunch of numbers.Comment

Yes I think it may have been. The name sounds familiar. I was only 12 at the time so can't be sure. He'd broken his boom at some stage and had a varnished branch straight off the tree in its place. The cabin was insulated with styrofoam and black from using kero to preheat the Primus stove.

We spent 6 months in Tonga and Fiji on my dads 23 footer. Back then there was no limit on personal baggage on cruise ships. We initially hired a car trailer planning to tow the boat to Sydney then load it onto the Oriana I think as baggage. It turned out to be too heavy for the trailer so we got a backload on a truck. All a bit frantic as the cruise was booked. The ship craned her straight into the water in Nukualofa. Maybe she qualifies as an offshore capable trailer boat. Almost.

Re: An offshore capable trailer boat ?
I went to the Wooli River today, which is around the southern end of Peter's cruising area if I'm correct. Marine Rescue said the bar (which is, I think outside the breakwaters and therefore exposed to the full swell) has silted and is now only 70cm deep. It still looked better than Nambucca or Bellinger rivers, but it may indicate the issue with access to these waters.Comment

Re: An offshore capable trailer boat ?
see if this works... were dealing with much the same thing at many of our river mouths, luckily we still have Portsmouth, Gloucester, Salem, Boston, and Portland, as well as the Isle O Shoals and numerous small harbors along Cape Anne and the southern coast of Maine to duck into if the surf comes up suddenly.

for instance, here's Gloucester, outer and inner harbors.

I'm jealous of that coastline Daniel! But not your water temperatures.'' You ain't gonna learn what you don't want to know. ''

Re: An offshore capable trailer boat ?
Peter,
Here's a 'possible': well...it has shoal draft, strip plank, a double ender (or counter stern option), not too wide to trailer and says 'design displacement 1 ton' for your Hilux. Might be able to fashion a cabin. Its a canoe hull, would be tight under a cabin. An inshore daysailer, but it might be 'sea worhy'enough and a base to work from. 23ft. 1'10 draft centerboard up.
I spie space for a prop...
Joel White's Lala
Counter stern option.

That looks delightfull. Mast looks a bit tricky to set up. , may i propose a yawl rig option with tabernacle masts?Comment

Re: An offshore capable trailer boat ?
And you might like to add a similar looking doghouse for a cosy cabin. Not everyones taste, it took me a while to get my eyes round to the practical advantages, and now it seems like an elegant solution to headroom without boxiness.
If you google "jollenkreuzer" images, you get the idea.Comment

Agreed, some are a little "boxy" but others are quite elegant.'' You ain't gonna learn what you don't want to know. ''
