I don't feed them– quite the opposite.

What are you doing about it?

I don't like those fjords. They give me claustrophobia.

Edit to add: The fjord was created during the last ice age and when the ice receded, the shoreline on the Strait of Belle Isle (between Newfoundland and Labrador) sprang back up from being compressed by gazillions of tons of ice, isolating what became Western Brook Pond from the sea. Over the millennia, the waters of the pond became fresh, not salt, and as the contributing streams flow over igneous rock with relatively thin soil, the waters feeding Western Brook Pond are low in nutrients and the lake is classified as ultraoligotrophic. An oligotrophic lake is a lake with low primary productivity, as a result of low nutrient content. These lakes have low algal production, and consequently, often have very clear waters, with high drinking-water quality. Western Brook Pond is stunningly clear. There is a 2 mile trail from the coastal highway to the tail of the pond, where two tour boats are available to take you to the head along the thousand-foot cliffs and by numerous waterfalls cascading from the plateau above. One of these, the wonderfully-named Pissing Mare Falls at 350 m (1,150 ft), is one of the highest in eastern North America. I have hiked on the plateau above the fjord and taken the boat tour five or six times, and heartily encourage others to visit. It is, as the Newfoundlanders phrase it, 'wonderful grand'. (I have liberally quoted from Wikipedia's description of Western Brook Pond in this paragraph. - mmd)
Very cool, so all the water I'm seeing is cut off from the ocean, and fresh?

I hope to get up there some day.

Feeding the trolls is what the bilge is all about. Threads in other areas rapidly disappear or elicit no comment whatever.

Orca, I don't know the secchi depth; sorry. I do know that the max depth of the lake is around 140 metres.

Arizona, yes, it is completely cut off from the sea, by about two miles.

Dryfoot, they get that way after ice a few miles thick scrapes overt the tops of 'em for a few thousand years.
Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

Quick explanation: the Secchi disk is a simple device used to measure the transparency of water. A white 30 cm disk is used in saltwater and a 20 cm disk with black quadrants is used for freshwater.

The disk is lowered on a line with depth measurements until it is no longer visible.

The Secchi depth is reached when the reflectance equals the intensity of light backscattered from the water. This depth in metres divided into 1.7 yields an attenuation coefficient (also called an extinction coefficient), for the available light averaged over the Secchi disk depth. While used as a variable, the extinction coefficient is also used as a variable for turbidity. The light attenuation coefficient, k, can then be used in a form of the Beer–Lambert law,

to estimate Iz, the intensity of light at depth z from I0, the intensity of light at the water surface.

I used one to measure transparency in alpine lakes in the Wind River Range, Wyoming, at two points during the ice-out period. When the upper strata are warm, in late summer with a plankton bloom, the lakes get quite murky.

If one was deemed a Troll and decided to relent, how could they let the Forum know if they are boycotted in this way?

Maybe a Sticky Thread such as " Trolls seeking Redemption"?

^ How about an appellation beside their name only removable by Scot indicating that they are "on probation for trolling"?

Also, how about a scorecard beside a poster's name indicating how many times they have been banned? You know, sort of like a public announcement that a pedophile is living in your neighborhood...

    Point of fact --

Being banned is less likely to occur for 'trolling' than for passion. Hi Glen! Hi Tulsy!!

Define 'trolling' in determining what is a 'troll' resulting in a poster having an appellation beside their name indicating that they are "on probation for trolling".

I sometimes ask people why they respond to such obvious trolls.

    Then I responded twice today.

I really do hate it when someone with sh1t for brains tells me what I think and gets it wrong.

Without the trolls this place would quickly turn into a circular firing squad and would wither and die.

There'd be no reason to consensus build. There'd be no cliques with which to align and self identify with and cling to for a sense of belonging. There'd be no repository for the hate and spew that fill so many here.

You ought to be thanking the trolls. They give you a whole lot more than you think.

If only trolls had some facts to support what they love to spew! Apparently, very few appear to have any worthy of any merit at all but, are perhaps just too ignorant to even notice. The trolls know who I'm referring to or should!

Just so. What would ACTUALLY make this place lively and rewarding is differing opinions backed up by facts, data, logic, and sound rhetoric.

Instead we get unsupported assertions, wild claims, repetition of the latest talking points (which they then don't understand, can't defend, and abandon when tomorrow's tp's are handed to them pre-soiled), deflection, sophistry, bald-faced lies, unprovoked name-calling, citations of dodgy sources, and general bott-headedness (did I spell that right?). Is it any wonder they end up on ignore lists, or are met with ridicule, or occasionally irritate someone sufficiently for them to really blast them (occasionally getting banned in the process).

Sometimes when harassed or stalked I read the malfeasor's content by attaching the narrative voice of Scooby Doo.

I find that in doing that, an irritating post can become quite funny.
