Yeah. A friend went from about 1995-2000 & won't go back now.

    This thread is awesome.

I dated a SoCal hippie chick for a couple years, and she called herself a hippie chick too.

Now I'm dating a doctor who doesn't mind being called a cute chick.

I think it's in the delivery.

I see that Ol' Blooie is searching for the answer that will prove his assertion, despite overwhelming evidence offered that contradicts it. I presume that he will declare victory when (and if) he finds a single answer that suits him.

I have no idea whether is comes from assiduous study, or a natural talent, but she really KNOWS how to do Sophistry. One tactic is to 'reframe the issue' so as to get the answer you were pre-supposing. That's different than honest debate. A topic she apparently knows nothing of.

    Pretty well sums it up.

He probably thinks we'll all walk up to a complete stranger & say "Hey hippie chick!" However, expecting a Trump supporter to understand nuance and tact is kinda like expecting a D9 Cat dozer to be gentle on your lawn...

You can't win. You're caught out arguing against the same progressive articles of faith that you're subscribed to; or, stated differently, you're being required to play by the Left's own set of rules.

It's very difficult, I understand, but no level of adverse consensus or insult can change the basic fact of it.

    You're caught out. That's it.

And there you have it - despite overwhelming evidence contrary to the postulation, Ol' Blooie declares victory! D'ya think there will be a victory lap, or will the 'victor' gracefully abandon the field?

Never at work (or wherever male privilege or power dominate).

Not too many hippie chicks at work, but I know a whole bunch socially. You should see the festival (read: noisy party all night) campground at our folk festival - as good as the music on the nine stages usually is (and it's world-class), some people don't even leave the campground. You'd have to see it to believe it. For one weekend a year, a rural provincial park turns into the province's third-largest city, and it's nurtured about three generations of freaks by now.

What are you doing about it?

Who is going to be the first here to walk into a room of women and announce that you reserve the right to refer to any and all of them as a "chick?"

That you've decided that it's OK? That you might even post a picture of them with that reference because you're entitled to do so?

Examine and learn, people. Stop digging.

Dude - if you are sauve, handsome and charming... you can call a woman chick, babes or honeys if you can get away with it. Old hairy men get fewer options.

    Hippie Chicks!
Nice. This excellent article articulates what those of who were there, and paying attention, already know.

As with many human endeavors, it's a complex phenomenon. With much to discuss and parse. But those who are incapable of approaching it with an open mind... who instead insist on some sort of puckered black & white approach... fail to offer any sort of illumination. Except perhaps to the state of their brain and their soul.

Well, sure. A suave dude can say many things to a woman in context, Ted. Things much more colorful than "chick." Maybe she even asks for some colorful language.

Not sure what your comment adds to the discussion.

Gentlemen, these are the basic rules of progressive identity politics. Maybe it will help to think of it in terms of the "N" word. Just as no single person or group can authorize its use as to all; no single woman can either for this word, because...

Hi Chip! Somehow I don't see you in that room of women calling them "chicks." True?

So what are you angry about, exactly? Why so nasty?

Did you think that was nasty? Oh my! What a pale, thin skin you have. Too much time indoors.

As far as the 'chick" thing, being such an internet maestro I assume you've heard of "chick-lit." Which is young women writing for other young women.

Stop trying to stand in judgement when you can barely crawl.

In fact, it's a good question for all of you: why should any of you be so utterly incensed with the mere suggestion that it might not be OK to refer to women in this way?

Some of you are positively outraged by it, while at the same time you know you aren't going into that room and using the word.

    Why?
