"Chicks" as a reference to women, is no longer appropriate in an age of #metoo.

Also, only people from Great Britain and Australia may use the term "blokes", and never in writing.

I'm just trying to help. If you wouldn't drop the reference while among a group of women, why is it appropriate here?

If you're on the Left, the male entitlement thing has to stop. New rules, people.

Thank god for those who self-identify as "hippie chicks" without quibbling over the politics of the label.

I've known a few, they are truly special people.

Actually, no. I made the same reference a year or so ago, in mixed company, and was corrected for it, by a man (no less). As irritating as that was, I had to admit he was right.

Our "president" is paying off hookers for their silence & someone is worried about the phrase "hippie chicks".

Maybe he's got stock in a patchouli company?

Yesterday they defended a flag inversion. Today they will stand on a male-entitled pejorative for women.

Is there any wrong you blokes won't dig in on?

Having known and loved a number of 'hippy chicks' in my life, I have to agree wholeheartedly.

Somebody keeps slipping itching powder into SB's merkin. Cut it out, willya? He gets altogether too disagreeable.

Very creative. Certainly more so than "gfy," but none of us can be all things to all people, so that's alright.

No magic powder involved. We're simply seeing the slow revelation of her soul.

Who among you would use the term among a group of educated, professional women? Show of hands, please.

Keith? You? I don't believe it.

I do know if you call a woman who is feeling it... a "hippy chick" gets a giggle and leads one back to nature faster.

My niece is a self-described 'hippie chick'. She has a PhD in microbiology. Does that constitute an "educated, professional woman"?

Is it even OK to "thank God" anymore? "Thoughts and prayers" will get you in enough trouble as it is. Is "thank God" next?

Just so. I currently know several women who describe themselves thusly. Nurse. Lawyer. Artist. Two counselors (one MSW, Phd psychology). Minister. Software engineer.

Some folks are clueless. Some like to bloviate. It's beyond unfortunate when the two coincide.

FWIW, the woman in the photo owns a VW microbus, has crossed the Atlantic twice in a wooden sailboat. (The photo may well be from that trip.)

Hippie chicks never seemed to give me the time of day, but back then we lived very different lives.

Today, those that are my age just seem to be people like everyone else, but nicer.

Jesus T. Christ SB, of course I wouldn't use the term with somebody I didn't know reasonably well. There are a lot of terms that can be used affectionately or insultingly depending on context, and anyone who cares at all about possibly offending people inadvertently will be careful with them. Likewise I wouldn't call someone a 'geeky engineer' just out of the blue.

VT is full of new age & original hippie chicks. Many are well educated professionals & wear the badge with honor. Now if one were to use it in a derogatory manner - watch out, but if used by someone "who was there" - no problem at all. The way Paul used it was entirely complimentary, btw & hippie chicks are bright enough to understand context - unlike some people.

As far as "thoughts & prayers" goes - you know damn well why that phrase is ridiculed.

Sky, I apologize for calling you " an entitled, dim minded masturbatory troll" the other night.

It was wrong, insulting, and I shan't do it again.

Personal attacks are just unnecessary, don't you agree?
