I have a garmin in my grab bag. It was the latest thing around 2010 or so. I've fired it up last year a couple of times. It's old ,clunky and counterintuitive to use.
Any basic smartphone has a GPS in it by law for emergency services now . For me it's just backup or other purpose when the plotter or ipad is doing something else, like a Google earth position in a reef complex or topographical feature perhaps. Can't be hard to get charging sorted out.

    Why isn't this thread over in Tools / M / T / P?

    Could/should it be moved?
