If only we had an 80k+ entry dataset to help us know what you're interested in, Paul.

"Barbell Logic", which goes into a lot of useful discussion of intermediate programming, in part for Masters lifters whose bodies aren't as good at recovery anymore.

"Karate Culture" isn't so much a podcast as a set of videos that come out regularly on their FB channel, which have to do with using karate in close range self defense contexts, instead of standing a few feet apart and doing either "point sparring" sport contests, or the consensual fighting that you see modeled in boxing or mma.

Listening to a few different folks on aspects of Christian thought and practice too - stumbled across a fairly young Catholic priest called Fr. Mike Schmitz who directs his stuff mostly at a University chaplains audience, and he is really solid. And brief, and funny.

If you were a fan of The West Wing you'd already be listening to West Wing Weekly, but I also enjoy Hrishi's other podcast "Song Exploder". Super deep-dive geekout sessions on good music that I otherwise wouldn't catch. Typically very short episodes, however.

"The Moth." Hours and hours of everything. The full breadth of the human experience.

"Car Stuff. " Very hit-or-miss, but the hit episodes are good light fare.

I listen to audiobooks, not podcasts.... and many are NOT political.

At the moment, I'm listening to "The Butchering Art: Joseph Lister's Quest to Transform the Grisly World of Victorian Medicine", an interesting biography of the doctor and surgeon who transformed medicine from a filthy practice in which many, of not most, patients died from infections acquired in hospitals, to a safe, curative art and science.

Audiobooks are not all that dissimilar to podcasts, but 'long form' in nature, and provide a more complete understanding of any topic.

I got into audiobooks some years back, when I had a consulting contract requiring an hour-long commute each way. Most audiobooks average 10 hours in length (these are unabridged books), so I was consuming a book each week, or 50 books per year.

I get my books mostly from Audible.com ( a division of Amazon). The Audible 'deal' is a 'membership', which costs $14.95/month, and includes one free book of your choice... the rest are sold at various prices, always a discount from the list price. Every now and then, they offer deeper discounts on selected books.

The books are delivered as DRM-protected 'aax' files... which are annoying as hell. You can put them on an iPod or iPhone, and listen via Bluetooth or direct plug-in, in the car... but like any Apple software scheme, it sucks. Instead, I found a piece of freeware which can convert .aax files to ordinary .mp3 files... the freeware doesn't seem to work on Windows 10, but works on a Windows 8.2 laptop I have.

You COULD get audiobooks from your local library, and copy to an iPod, or iPhone, I suppose.... I don't know what sorts of DRM audiobooks on CD might be using, never tried it.

"Reason and facts are sacrificed to opinion and myth. Demonstrable falsehoods are circulated and recycled as fact. Narrow minded opinion refuses to be subjected to thought and analysis. Too many now subject events to a prefabricated set of interpretations, usually provided by a biased media source. The myth is more comfortable than the often difficult search for truth."

The best statement I've seen from this latest carnage came from a student who lived through it -

Dave's book rec up in MBR... Vacationland by John Hodgman, is also available as an audiobook, read by Hodgman.

That's as good as any podcast, I'll wager.

Music that will not distract you from your task at hand.

    e.g. calming classical.

Crimetown podcast - a multi-part series on the story of the Mafia in Providence Rhode Island. Fascinating.

We listen to WTF in the car. That guy is nuts. I like him. Great interviews.

I also listen to the Creative Agency podcast. It's probably not what you're looking for, but someone here may find it interesting.
