I feel moved to point out, though, that while she may be a catboat, this boat's hull shape is NOT very much like a Beetle Cat.

I'm with you, Emily. If one can't get anal about a classic ( yea, verily, "iconic," ) wooden boat design on the Wooden Boat Forum, where can one?

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

The Cape Cod catboat designers tried a wide range of hull designs to balance speed against stability. They were not in any way disconnected from Bristol and were watching to see what they could use while still meeting the needs of their customers and their own curiosity. A few samples and a lot of resources on paper are around still to see what Crosby, Hanley, Phinney and the others tried out.

But the beetle's aft end is really smack in the middle of the most classic definition of catboat, and the photo Pless put up is too far away for that boat to be a big beetle.

    What's a beetle cat?

Its ok , I looked it up. So its characterised by that curved bow and transom stern with the nice easy exit.

    What is T 82 up above ?

T 82 is Silent Maid. she's one of a class of giant catboats on the northern New Jersey shore.
