I’m old. The ruination this buffoon has brought about will affect me the rest of my life. That’s depressing as hell. I’ve developed a few ways to cope, the boat and shop are nice diversions. But I also spend time trying to spread real information among some of my friends and family, not always successfully. I enjoy reading Norman’s posts as most are parallel to what I try to spread in my own circles. I don’t have kids, and I’m not sure how those who do can teach them to think properly in this environment.Comment

Re: How is everyone coping?
I find myself thinking about that old joke, "How do you boil a frog?"
Every time I think the White House can't get crazier it does and I have to renormalize my expectations. It's a real danger and it leads to a form of complacency that we cannot tolerate. The office of the POTUS has been degraded to a point where it carries no respect. We cannot let ourselves become complacent with this continuing downward spiral. It's painful, but we need to keep our perspective on what the office of the POTUS is expected to be."Where you live in the world should not determine whether you live in the world." - Bono

Re: How is everyone coping?
To address Andrew Sullivan's article in post #1, the "current toxicity that has seeped into everyone" is very evident in the responses posted here this morning.
Trump has brought out the worst in everyone. He openly advocated for racism, hatred and lying in his campaign and continues to do so in his presidency. People are naturally going to react to that. Some will embrace it, others reject it.
As for me, I agree with Norman that Trump is a national nightmare. Every aspect of decency that I was brought up to respect is trampled under foot by this president* and it is depressing to see America devolve into two camps yelling at each other with no true leadership in sight and this does indeed affect my daily mood.Do not speak of "our institutions" unless you make them yours by acting on their behalf.

Re: How is everyone coping?
If Obama was allowed to run for a third term, he would have won. HC was hardly of Obama's caliber. You, clearly, want America to fail, this economy is due, in large part, to the foundation built during the Obama Administration. The fact that you can't acknowledge that is probably the most telling aspect of your rampant racism.
Just curious, do you think the President or Congress has a greater affect on the economy of the USA?Comment

Re: How is everyone coping?
The best part of being on my boat all winter is I am not in the States. People from here ,Eastern Caribbean, tend to dislike Trump as much as I do . That is the good part, as my hometown Gig Harbor, is chock a block with Trumpsters.
But still hurting from my concussion/ fractured neck, I have to take it easy which means I’m on the stinking Facebook and wbf all freakin day .
i am not the cerebral type to better myself by reading paper things .. whaddya call em ... books.Comment

Re: How is everyone coping?
The concern is for the future. I'll tax policy is destroying the middle class. I'll energy policy is destroying the environment. Guns are eroding the fabric of society. And the corruption of our values is bringing into focus the overarching importance of money. It's not our lives today that are the big problem and I think you know that even if it does not concern you."Where you live in the world should not determine whether you live in the world." - Bono

Re: How is everyone coping?
Intelligence experts agree "toxicity" was the objective of the Russian Troll involvement in our election.
that's why Bots and Trolls supported and financed Black Lives Matter style protests and re tweeted the "Ping Pong Pizza" type tinfoil hat stuff.
The degree to which Liberals believe wide swaths of Republicans were concerned/ believing the Ping Pong Pizza sex ring, is the degree to which Liberals were fooled (willingly fooled?) by Russian Trolls and Bots.Comment

Trumps an idiot. So is anyone else that lets the next 3 years of Trump ruin their life, or cause fights with strangers, or push away family.“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. I spent most of yesterday and most of today at my church's soup kitchen preparing and serving meals to folk that don't know where that next meal is coming from.
Just because I'm not needy, don't you dare for one minute think I sit around in luxury and just pontificate on world affairs.I was born on a wooden boat that I built myself.
