The Annapolis '44's are great boats. There was (is?) one on SF Bay that used to fly a yellow and blue 'chute that said "Go Navy!" Rumors were the kids at the academy really beat the crap out of them over the years, but that's to be expected, I suppose. When the Academy was through with them, they sent them off to be used by the Navy's "Morale, Welfare, and Recreation" program where they were available to military personnel and retierees and their families for recreational purposes. After that, what was left of them was sold off as surplus. Their fiberglass replacements were made by Uniflite, which was well-regarded for their fiberglass lay-up quality. (They also made the Navy's PBRs of Vietnam fame.) The fiberglass Annapolis '44's were great boats but not economically viable over the long haul as a civilian yacht l because replicating their lines in fiberglass was extremely costly. The Navy, of course, paid for theirs with taxpayer money and didn't much care what they cost. The few fiberglass Annapolis '44's that were built for the civilian market are certainly "plastic classics" worth owning.

Wow, when we were searching for a boat a few years back we looked at Resolute. Suffice it to say we passed when we looked below and saw lots of bright daylight poking through the sheer and other parts of the hull. Funny thing is that we were at Emerald last summer and saw her there without even realizing it until now.
