Yes it is from a real race...a race that the white boat ended up winning.

    Guess they improved then, huh?

Sorry - just a former competitive rower who (thought he) had to say something.

That's OK...I was just messing with you. I have no idea where or when that picture was taken. For all I know, they rowed over a waterfall.

Eclles and his piece of paper would agree with you there.

    An excellent exchange.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

If that comment is for me......you would be wrong.
For many years I held, for the family, Grandads Mark 1 Lee Enfield 303 rifle.
I passed it on when I gave up hunting and therefore my firearm licence.
It was still in full military condition, wooded etc, and had been used by him in WW1.
He was a sniper for 2 years in France and it was the extra long barrel model with other mods specially for snipers.
I have his Silver Cross presented by HRH Prince of Wales in 1914 for 2nd place in a competition over 400,800 and 1000 yards.
Remember, no scopes in those days. He told us kids winning that medal saved his life in the war.
He stayed 2 trenches behind the front lines and well hidden at all times.

I fired that rifle quite a few times at rifle ranges and even over open sights, it was extremely accurate, at various ranges.
I once thought I was wrong, but I was wrong, I wasn't wrong.
