I’m surprised that no one has mentioned Ben’s sexual harassment of what’s-her-face, pursuing her even to her wedding, for chrissake. Wouldn’t take no for an answer, he. Open and shut case.
Well, Mr. Botard, do you still deny all rhinocerotic evidence?

Nicely stated. That is the precise framing. And it was done in a single compelling, dramatic scene, just seconds long, That scene is really the crux of the film. The "why" of the film. We like her a lot, we want to like her, but then suddenly we don't. We can't admire her adventurousness, nor be sympathetic for her unhappiness, if in the end she's just a snob with the Graduate not good enough for her daughter.

It clearly was not a feminist film, even for the pre CIA funded Gloria Steinem social engineering era. The degrading of the mature woman who risked much to be with the young man and ease with which he and the audience could discard her for the young woman. It tended to reinforce male privilege.

My favorite thing in the movie is the boat-tail Alfa, does that make me a shallow person?

Not at all. Just means you’ve got your priorities well sorted.

^Those boat-tailed Alfa's were the tits, man! Never liked the next iteration nearly as much. But I digress.

I've not seen the film in so long I don't remember it well enough to comment, but on the topic of great American song writers: I ran across this Iris Dement this morning. She never made "The Show" quite like Simon did, but a handful of her songs are make me cry beautiful. This one is a sorta "the dog died, my truck's been impounded, my lady left" country lament from a much fuller, and woman's, perspective. Just a great song.

It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

What about this thread is a troll in any way? What about it intended to irritate people or make them unhappy?

So many of the rudeboyz around here come to the Forum with so much anger and venom they can't even leave alone an ordinary thread about an iconic American film.

    Just for blooie...

Here is pretty much the entire reason music videos are dumb, but itís got clips of the flick, and these smiling goobers do a passable job with the song.

Then just leave it alone if you have nothing to add to the discussion that some people want to have. Why be a jerk?

You are the discussion that you wish to have. You are just not the discussion that we wish to have.

You know that one line was the premise for the whole movie?

    I love it, anyway.

Another, almost perfect song and one of the all-time vocals. So good it'll soften the eye a bit. Thanks for posting it.
