Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said “take them out.” Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!

Why are these people leaving these beautiful, idyllic little countries to come to the US?

Exactly the same reasons my ancestors left the beautiful idyllic valleys of Wales, the picturesque countryside of England, and the charming green hills of Germany.

Perhaps we should remember what's written on the base of the Statue of Liberty.

    The New Colossus
    BY Emma Lazarus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Our Esteemed Leader is a Lying Sack of Shinola.

He is now denying that he ever said those words, despite the fact that witnesses say he is a lying sack of Shinola.

Washington: US President Donald Trump acknowledged on Friday that he used "tough" language during a meeting on efforts toward a bipartisan immigration deal, but appeared to deny using the term " ******** " to refer to some countries.

"The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!" Trump wrote on Twitter.
Spokespeople for the White House did not immediately respond to a request for clarification. The White House had not denied that Trump used the vulgarity when it was first reported by The Washington Post and later confirmed by numerous other news outlets

Trump is right. The haters are more concerned about rude language in a private meeting than they are about the status of Dream Act beneficiaries.

I hope Trump drills down ever harder on these hateful people.

The problems with this tweet include:
    1. You are a serial liar.
    2. You didn’t deny it yesterday.
    3. The White House didn’t deny it yesterday
    4. None of the lawmakers who attended the meeting denied it yesterday.
    5. Your history of racist statements and actions.

For the same reason my great grandfather, Jacob Bernstein, and his wife Tema, left the village of Rukhovo, in what is now Belarus, at the turn of the last century... along with 9 of their 10 children.

Their descendants now number of 460 people, at last count.... engineers, doctors, lawyers, tradesmen, all of whom are contributing to what makes this country great.

The tenth child? He was alive as of 1916, forced to move out of his home by the Russian government, to a place where it was 'acceptable' for Jews to live (according to official Russian records). The trail of his life goes cold after 1916... most likely, killed in either the Russian revolution, or World War II.

THAT is why the others left, to come here.

Yes, the exact same reasons: safety, freedom, and economic opportunity.

Why do YOU think they come?

Exactly. To avoid unpleasantness in their home country - wars, famines, poverty, oppression, all the standard things that go wrong - and to come someplace they have a better chance. Why else would people emigrate? Sometimes it's more of one factor, sometimes more of another, but at bottom it's all from the same list.

And remember, those who are lazy, lacking ambition, content with things as they are, unwilling to take risks, unwilling to try new things, willing to put up with a lot of crap rather than change - those folks and their descendants are still in Norway, or Germany, or Ireland, or Italy, or Mexico, or China, or various other sh!thole counties around the world.

I see the US ambassador to Panama has resigned..

Reuters reported that the US ambassador to Panama, John Feeley, had quit, saying he was no longer able to serve under Mr Trump - the reason for his resignation has not been verified elsewhere

And, apparently, the US Ambassador to Haiti as well.

Fleeing war and oppression? Yep. My Dad's lot were part of that wave of scots-irish who washed up here in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, victims of being on either side of the religious civil wars, of the highland depopulation policies, of being transported after trial or fleeing the hangman before trial, of English genocide against the scots. Life on the lawless Old West (Ohio, Illinoise for my lot, further south for many others, over the mountains) was still safer than Scotland.

Mom's side was more respectable, her family name Soule coming down from a Mayflower survivor and her mother being from the Virginia Harrisons (of many Benjamin's and two presidents so no illegals that side. At least not until they embarked on treason against the crown and formed a nation.

We did not actually have immigration laws then so in a sense no one was actually illegal in that respect though they might be fleeing the law, changing their names, or as we say now "reinventing" themselves.

Whatever our problems with immigrants, they pale beside the massive population migrations that have happened throughout history and are happening now in Europe. The "illegals" who get here are tenacious survivors and risk takers who mostly become very energetic participants in our base economy. Our president's racist demonization of these people is a national shame.

"Pretend to care"; "virtue signalling"......I have long observed that the thoughts, feelings, idea and motivations that people attribute to others are usually a good guide to the character, or lack of it, of the person doing the projection or attribution.

Sometimes it's hard to imagine just how different many people are from oneself. A sort of solipsism.

apparently a coincidence, his resignation was known before Trumpspew.

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-u...-idUSKBN1F1227

Speaking to reporters, Goldstein said that he was aware of Feeley’s planned departure 24 in advance, before Trump’s alleged use of the term, and said his understanding was that the ambassador had resigned for “personal reasons.”

”Everyone has a line that they will not cross,“ ”Goldstein told reporters at the State Department. “If the ambassador feels that he can no longer serve ... then he has made the right decision for himself and we respect that.”

SB might consider the possibility that we think many polices Mr. Trump wants to implement are stupid, destructive, cruel, and wrong, and that we dislike him because of the harm he's done, and that he's trying to do. The claim that we object to the places because of personal dislike for the man is absurd. If he were still a shady businessman and reality-TV celebrity, I'd think he was a minor irritation, somewhat ridiculous but basically inconsequential amd harmless. His character in that case would be his own business As president, it's another matter altogether; his loathsome character has the potential to do terrible damage.

Sorry, but you blokes don't get to decide. You can sit there and make public statements and gird your egos with virtuous pronouncements and feel yourselves superior for it, but in the end, it's not your call.

What are any of you doing about this issue, tangibly, in the real world, apart from making pronouncements on an internet forum about woodenboats?
