    Default HGTV Dream Home

HGTV annually builds a dream home which they give away in a sweepstakes.
This year it's in Gig Harbor, WA.
What we have learned so far:
    1. "Gig Harbor is 20 minutes from Seattle." That is true, if you go by helicopter. If you go by car its close to two hours. When the highway rebuilding is finished it might be an hour and a half.

    2. "It is a Stunning Pacific Coast home." I think the closest Pacific Coast home would be in Ocean Shores, WA about a 2 hour drive.

    3. Designers from Atlanta think PNW style consists of photos of whales, the Space Needle, Mt Rainier, and a ferry boat. The garage has a chandelier and a crafting space.
There is a $3,000 steel and reclaimed wood doghouse.

Gig Harbor is a former fishing and boatbuilding town. Nowadays its more of a scented candle and soap kind of town, but still a fun place to kayak.

That's some funny stuff right there. And good thing they got some designers from Atlanta because I'm sure there are no architects around here that understand this area's "style".

It's also a remodel rather than new construction. Cabinets-to-go, Lumber Liquidators, and Lowe's paint.

But if you win, you get $250K for a boat.

I entered that one time, for a place in the North Carolina mountains. Didn't win, though.

I think I remember hearing that the winners quite often have tax problems after the contest. I am not sure if that's what the $250K is for or what? I assume that were I to win I'd have the photos taken with me shaking hands all around and then call a realtor the next day?

If won a house like that I'd sell it and look in Poulsbo or Bainbridge Island. And then I'd un-retire from racing and be a six metre sailing fool.

But, but... does it have a shop?

I would take it all - reverse mortgage the sucker and live the life we all dream about.

Out of interest I went to look at one of the Dream Houses near Savannah when we lived there and the contest was in its early years. Awful lot that showed signs of flooding on spring tides. It was built like crap. Shoddy and poorly finished. Eye candy suitable for TV only.

That's what the entire right side is for - they call it a garage
