Default Price for common hdg 16d nails

What's a good price per pound for nails? I have no frame of reference. Amazon is quoting $2/ lb for 50 lbs delivered. The hardware store is about $3/lb. Thanks

Tom, I did a quick online for (just a check / no affiliation) Home Depot pricing and they seem a bit cheaper. Not sure I checked the right type
Do you have, for example 84 Lumber or other co-op type store nearby ?

What’s a 16d nail? Is that gauge, length, hardness, style?

    Thanks everyone.

I found them for $75 a box at a small country hardware store outside Austin. Sounds like that is in the ballpark. I thought it was going to be odd ordering nails on Amazon.

    Happy new year to all!

I don’t think I’ve bought a 50lb box of hand drive nails in twenty years. If I needed to drive that many nails today and didn’t have a pneumatic nailer I’d head down to the pawn shop and get one. Then I’d sell it after I was done framing. They fire sheathing nails, too, doncha know.

Agreed. I'm feeling old fashioned. I enjoy the feel of the old heavily zinc coated, full round head, full size common nails. Save the really hairy ones to stick together the more stubborn boards. The nail gun stock tends to be thinner and smoother. I was in 160-180 mph winds when I was a youngster and I still remember the house being just on the edge of coming apart. Guess it made an impression.

I can't get past why anyone would need 50lbs of framing nails unless you do a lot of building framing work.
    Just curious.

2,400 nails or so....that does seem like a lot....Hope to build a cabin as soon as I can get the concrete work finished. And I never can find a stupid nail when I need one....a big box will be harder to lose. And Home Depot charged me $4.37 for a 1lb box and these work out to about $1.50/lb. And maybe waiting these last 62 work days till I can retire is making me a little nutty.
