Default Can I add a deck?

So I’m not even close to being at this stage yet, but “the boss” just asked if we could add a deck to the Oughtred Guillemot I’m building...

    What do you think?

    Thanks

    Certainly not side decks.

One might be tempted if building the sailing version to make a foredeck from the partners to the stem. I see no advantage to this. Can't stand or sit on it and it makes stowing things in the bow a bit more of a challenge.

I'm not sure I'd even put in a bow seat ahead of where the partners would have gone in a sailing version. Pretty small. But could be good if you have a dog or small child for the spot.

What do you think a deck could do and why do you want it?

I agree it's a bit short for a deck to make sense. Adding positive buoyancy would be a good idea, however. That can be fit below the thwarts.

A low platform to step onto or stow stuff out of any bilge water would be good, otherwise no.
    Bit like these.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

Thanks everyone! I think you’ve reinforced what I thought...

I’m not sure I know what a deck would do for me, Ian...! Just responding to a question from the boss after she saw a Melonseed! 🙄

I have seen some with a snap-on acrylic (Sunbrella) sprayscreen. That might keep the boss happy?

I disagree, you could add a deck.Take a look at a Tideway for an example. You would not be advised to stand on the foredeck though.Unless you enjoy swimming.

And if the deck were added in conjunction with a watertight bulkhead it would add a lot of floatation. Secure dry storage can be nice too. Not advocating, just something to think about.
