"still banned is license plates that incite or promote violence, including hate speech"

and that plate isn’t considered hate speech? Yet there are fewer expressions in the English language that can express more hate in two words.
    Larks

    “It’s impossible”, said pride.
    “It’s risky”, said experience.
    “It’s pointless”, said reason.
“Give it a try”, whispered the heart.

I guess that 'freedom' includes freedom from civility, too.

Up here in NS (not that far from Maine) a few months ago there was a bit of a furor over a guy who had his vanity plate revoked after several (or many, I don't recall) years because somebody complained about it. The nasty plate was actually his surname, but that has become politically incorrect. His name? "Grabher".
Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

Maine has a lot of great vanity plates, but that one is just plain unnecessary.

"Hate speech", where it's any sort of legal offence or crime, is speech that targets various defined religious, ethnic, or sexual minorities. It's perfectly lawful to show hostility to all people regardless of race, religion, national origon, sex, or sexual orientation.

Forget license plates. I'm very offended by what I see on T-shirts.
I was born on a wooden boat that I built myself.

That is not hate speech. It is childish speech and offensive speech, but as it is not targeted (except at any tailgater) it is not hate speech.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

Why not just place a bumper sticker that says, " pull me over, please," and get right to it?

There is no such thing as hate speech.

In Ohio, they ask you to explain what the plate means. I have a few; so far no problems.

I saw a Mississippi plate with pretty much the same message. I am not sure why anyone would approve such a thing but it was probably just some very literal minded public employee not worried about the message but individual letters? I would hope that's it, anyway.

Saw this one last year: "FAH-Q".

Had this on my truck when I lived down South:

That Maine plate will be stolen very quickly. There's a plate-stamping prisoner somewhere laughing his head off...

There's a Jeep in our town that reads 'STFU'. One thing about vanity plates is that it makes you easy to remember and ID if you're a road rager or simply a jerk.

I posted this in Misc B-R because I don't read The Bilge and I imagined folks might post funny boat-related vanity plate suggestions. Feel free to repost in The Bilge.

Up until a few years back, VT State Trooper car decals were made by prisoners. The door decals picture a bucolic image complete with a cow (kind of a brown Holstein - not there is such a thing AFAIK). However, hundreds were installed before anyone noticed the shape of one of the spots on the cow:

If everyone did that all the forum would be trashed. Please respect the purpose of the bilge and put this sort of non bot related crap there. Maybe move this thread too, since it's your thread. Otherwise it's pretty much like on the number plate.

Are those plates for Maine's governor? Seems like that's his attitude.

Not offensive (or particularly boaty), but my favorite observed vanity plate was "CKOPEE." Read in Cyrillic text, it means "faster" in Russian.
