    Default Canadian road rage

"Reason and facts are sacrificed to opinion and myth. Demonstrable falsehoods are circulated and recycled as fact. Narrow minded opinion refuses to be subjected to thought and analysis. Too many now subject events to a prefabricated set of interpretations, usually provided by a biased media source. The myth is more comfortable than the often difficult search for truth."

That's how we roll. But if you really want to see the ugly side. . .

On my last visit to Montreal a few months ago, I noticed that nobody holds the door open for anyone. Now, I know that us folks in Massachusetts are not known for being all polite and warm and fuzzy, but if you follow someone through a door in these parts, 96% of the time the person in front of you will hold it open so that it doesn't slam on you. Despite how generally nice the folks were in Montreal, I noticed that none of them did this.

If I were a shopkeeper in Montreal and customers were holding my door open all day ("heating the whole neighborhood" as my father was likely to exclaim), I might get upset about that.

It's an urban thing. Higher population density makes it a bigger pain and people stop doing it.

I think most traffic incidents in the US happen in the manner of that in the video.

I know all those involving me while driving have. Someone does something stupid. And everyone handles it in a peaceful manner.

    Was expecting something like this:

"The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails."

    Canadian stand-off:

Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.
