My sincerest condolences. I was stunned to read this this morning. I only knew Jack from his posts here on the forum, but I felt I understood where he was coming from. His life interrupted leaves an enormous hole in the world. May you find peace.

Jack called me out of the blue one day to say that he was passing through New Orleans, and that he wanted to meet me. We met for lunch at a taco joint and had a great time. On another occasion he came by the house where we met up with Mickey Lake who had made the journey from Spanish Fort, AL to be with us. Left to right: Jack, me with closed eyes, and Mickey.

Jack was a wonderful man, and though I no longer participate here, I have thought of him often over the years. Peace to Donna and all of Jack's loved ones.

I apologize for the lack of information the online article provides to all of you about Jack's accident. I did not intend for this link about the accident to be posted until I was able to provide more details. At the time I made you aware of his passing, I knew very little about what actually happened. With each passing day I have been able to fill in the puzzle pieces; however, there are still alot of missing pieces. First, let me just say that the article states very clearly that "preliminary investigation" and that "the crash is still under investigation". Secondly, when I was contacted by the Polk County Sheriff's Dept about the accident, the officer was unable to answer any of my questions about what had happened, he knew nothing. I am still trying to get in contact with the deputy who was at the scene to find out if he was able to obtain a statement from Jack about why he veered off the road. I have been to the scene of the accident three times now. I believe with all of my heart that Jack was in danger of colliding with another vehicle and therefore, had no choice but to find his safe place. Jack and I have been riding together for years and he was a very skilled motorcyclist, always looking ahead for signs of danger. I knew how he thought. The location where the accident occurred was on a sharp curve, a curve that also shares an entrance/exit into a mobile home/RV park. Today our son will arrive, he is also a motorcyclist. I am anxious to get his opinion on what he feels may have happened. He's already been able to help me understand some points about the accident. As I mentioned previously the "crash" is still under investigation. At this time, there have been no identified witnesses and no other vehicle was involved, for this reason the state of Florida requires an autopsy to be performed. The investigation cannot be completed until the toxicology report comes back, this could take months; however, our prayers are that our God "who is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we could ask or imagine," will expedite these results because until these results arrive, the cause of death is pending. I have read every single post on this thread and will continue following your posts! I truly want to thank everyone of you for your heartfelt prayers, encouraging words, and deepest sympathy during our time of loss. We have been surrounded by loving, caring, encouraging friends, family, and friends of family and friends, which includes you! Thank you! At this time we are planning to have 2 memorial services. One here in Frostproof, Fl and another will be held in Birdsboro, PA. As soon as we finalize the dates you will be informed. Please remember: motorcycles are everywhere, look twice and save a life.

Thank you for the update. I know it can be painful going through times likes this. Take strength in your family and friends and remember the good

That picture of Jack at the helm is a great shot and reminds us all to live in and for the moment.

Going through my PM's I came across one from Jack from earlier this year when he was going to be coming through Soddy Daisy but he kept getting delayed in PA. I deeply regret that I missed him. Let's try to not let life get in the way and we need to take the time to visit with our friend or even pilot a boat. The little things.

Thank you so much for the update. It's still shocking to see Jack's name in a thread. So sad to see this, RIP Jack. I too decided that a bike was becoming too much of a liability, still miss it terribly. I hope Jack's family can take some solace in the fact that at the end, he was doing something he enjoyed.

I bump in here once in a while, been following this, not knowing what to say. Thank you, Joe, for that quote. It helps, and I very often think of David and Jason... That was a really nice day. I got together with Chuck a few more times over the years. Glad I could find the pic. Please know you and the family are in my thoughts. And just like so many other for United who have left us, I'm sure I will think of Jack throughout my coming years and this it what I'll see. Hugs.

Hi Donna - I don't know if you remember, but we met years ago.

Please know that while there are no words that will change what has happened, Jack will always be remembered here and you have my deepest sympathy.

Hello Everyone! Thank you for all your heartfelt prayers and concern for our family. It is amazing how one person can impact so many lives. Everyday I become aware of another person who's life was touched by Jack, I just got off the phone with one of them! Since my previous post, I have discovered some more details about the accident. If you read the online article that has been posted in this thread, it states he refused to be airlifted. That is correct; however, I discovered he was not a candidate for this. In order to be airlifted you must sit or lie down. He was unable to do either, the investigator told me he was so agitated he wouldn't remain still; therefore, the paramedics from the helicopter joined the ambulance crew to escort him to the hospital. I can only imagine what was going through his mind. I was also told that when he hit the ground after been thrown from the motorcycle, he sustained a laceration to his left cheek. The hospital did a great job of covering this up when they intubated him, I never saw the laceration. Because of the laceration he was unable to talk and was responding to the EMS by nodding his head and writing on paper. The police never obtained a statement from him; therefore, the reason for the crash still remains a mystery. Our son visited the crash site, and again, helped me with answers to questions. Like me, he is perplexed about what happened. His thought was, 'why didn't Dad just ride it out?', instead of using the front brake, which ultimately caused the motorcycle to flip. Maybe it was that concrete slab looming in the distance...I am not done doing my own investigating. I still want to talk to the EMS who attended to his medical needs, and I will be requesting a police report. For now though, we will be celebrating his life in Frostproof, FL at New Hope church on Saturday, Nov 18th @ 1 pm. The address: 825 County Rd 630A. Please feel free to join us for this celebration. We are also planning a memorial service in PA the weekend after Thanksgiving. As soon as those details are finalized I will post it for our northeastern friends. God bless us all!
