    Default I failed my MRI.

Five minutes in and I had to bail. Just too much pain.

Some of the things I have been putting off thinking about are coming home to roost, and it is no fun.

How did you have pain in an MRI? It's always been completely painless for me.

Do you have metals in your body that can't be removed? I don't understand and I'm more than a little surprised.

Does this mean you have a serious problem?

What Mr Smith said, I have MRIs frequently, every 3 months or so and they are no problem at all.

This is the one where they put your head into a mould and insert you into a tube? I have some pretty severe damage to my spine and the position they had me in I couldn't handle. I went through this same thing about six years ago with no problem. I made it five minutes into a thirty minute procedure before I had to bail.

Lots of clutter in my mind right now.

OK, that sounds uncomfortable but at least the pain isn't in your head.

Mickey, I just had an MRI on my neck - they gave me an Ativan about 30 minutes before and all went OK - they had asked me if I
was claustrophobic -- were you offered / can you take any meds beforehand ?

Oh! It wasn't the MRI, but it was the bench and you were uncomfortable lying on it?! I get that very clearly! There are some days when just sitting in the dentist chair is so rough on my back that I have to call it short.

Have you tried getting a prescription or using a bunch of Tylenol and Advil? My folks have had knee replacement surgery and the doctors have told them to combine the two. They can take considerably more than prescribed on the bottle so long as it isn't done long term and it can work rather well. Of course, back pain is about the worst.

I feel for you. I wish you good luck.

I'm sure they will work with you, to make you more comfortable in the future.
This happens more than you think.
My first CAT scan was awful and I kinda freaked out, mostly because of where my mind was at the time.
Try it again when there's less clutter.

I'e had several, and have always had a chat with the nurse in charge about a long ago spinal injury before going in. They've run around and collected pillows and blankets, padded and supported me to my satisfaction so I could treat the procedure as a chance for meditation.
Socialised medical care by the way, no bills.

Thanks to reciprocal benefits with Australia, I am receiving all my cancer care here in Australia free of charge. The chemo alone is valued at $93,000, add to that MRI, PET, biopsy operation, urologist, and oncologist, in excess of 100k. Of course, I have paid in more than that in my time, just not here. Feeling blessed.

    Truer words...

One day with a prescription won't do that. Truth be told, I've generally found that opioids are seldom needed until you go under a very serious knife, but I am blessed with very little experience.

Thanks for the advice, guys. The very nice MRI tech said she was amazed that I get by on a couple of ibuprofen a day, but I am very leery of becoming dependent on drugs of any kind. She suggested they give me a Valium for the test. We will see.

I'm sure you'll get it sorted, get the test, and discover that cosmetic surgery is NOT required after all. <G>

I can’t go in the tube, at all. I cannot lay flat, or sit for long at a 90* hip angle.

They have to do images of me on my side in the hamburger, and do both sides, because they can’t shoot my back flat unless I’m all the way out.

And I don’t take pain medicine at all. The doctors have offered super dope and “simple” NSAIDs, which are liver killer when taken in the dosage I’d need to do anything. Plus, all that’s chasing the dragon, anyway.

Varadero, you are lucky. My back injury eventually cost me my home and life savings.

Mickey, I wish you great luck, and much relief, Brother. At least mine’s lumbar, and I don’t have good enough insurance or enough money to get another MRI this year...

    Peace,
    Robert
