I found that video very interesting since I know nothing about the subjects discussed.
All that stuff (and the professional installations) must have cost a fortune.
Leo sure is putting in all the bells and whistles possible.
His description of the electrical system had my head spinning although I could grasp
    the basics of it.
I was born on a wooden boat that I built myself.

I've never seen a boat rigged for 240 and110. i wonder what he's going to do about outlets.

IU am sure that both Ebay and Amazon work in the US of A.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

Good to see the thread still alive, but we lost page 34 for some reason.

The latest video came out today.
It had me scratching my head for a few minutes until I remembered the date.

I wonder where that door will really be placed.

Deck house and cockpit coaming looks great.

Things are really moving along and I'm thinking that there is now light at the end
of the tunnel. Launch sometime in the next ten months or so?

Front Door.... Had a big argument about it with the coffee guys. One said he "saw the chainsaw cut into the hull," another stated that was common on boats of that size, handy fro bringing groceries and handicapped visitors aboard. Good fun and happy April 1.

I'm impressed that they managed to keep a straight face while doing it.

    A very good video.
Amazing that everything going into that boat is absolutely top shelf.
We'll never know, but I wonder what the final cost of this "one dollar" boat will be.

Definitely built to a higher standard than the original. When finished Leo will have a million dollar, world famous boat that others paid for. Good for him, and good for the wooden boat world.

In the latest video I was very happy to see the acknowledgement of boat craftsmen. Most of the posts reference the sponsor & YouTube donations as supporting materials and parts, but the fact that this project is employing craftsmen and giving them the materials and time to do their best work is much more significant. These people are an investment who will take their enhanced experience to other projects in the future and have a ripple effect on all maritime skills. I would further note that the economy has become such that the average worker can not afford to live in this town, and I think a hardworking craftsman should at least be able to bike to work, shop locally, and be fully integrated in the community.

yup. the first time I went to Port Townsend was in the late 50s. It was a tumble down place. In the early 70s came the hippies, followed in short order by wealthy retired people. It is totally different now.

    Same deal with Sausalito,
some of the boatwrights in Port Townsend were happily employed building and repairing woodenboats while living frugally on the outskirts of San Francisco.
Not worth the effort to exit off the 101 today
I wonder where the next haven for creative minds and productive hands will be?

To point out the obvious, what happened in capitalist America over the 20th century is that what was once a financially homogenous middle class with an upper class comprised of the rich and the professionals has devolved into a very large upper middle class composed of those who were formerly upper class pushing down and out many of the rest who formerly comprised the rest of the middle class from housing and schools. And, the standard of living for those in the upper middle class is actually lower than that of their parents! Speaking from experience.

The financial gap between boatwrights and boat owners reminds me of my time in the theater building scenery and the distance between the stagehands and theater goers.

Just plain pleasurable to see work done well.

Their edge tools are always sharp. Leo should put together a chisel and plane sharpening video! Maybe he already has, I certainly haven't watched them all.

Leo did a video on this a while back with the very fancy sharpening machine he got.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. That Zeal is worth his weight in bronze! They all are. Even the trim tab is a work of art. The engine room door is probably worth more than my boat!

Certainly going to be a world-class yacht. I wonder who he will sign on as crew? He will have his choice, I'll bet.

    Inspirational stuff, for sure.

I disagree with his naming of pintles and gudgeons. I think the male part is called the gudgeon, I accept that I’m in the minority here.

In the world of English engines a "gudgeon pin" (aka wrist pin elsewhere) connects the piston and connecting rod. But every other usage considers the gudgeon a "female" part and the pintle "male".

Not a 'Leo' production, but a gently rewarding video regarding the first stages of the restoration of Tally Ho's capstan:

I think that may be because it is the pin for the gudgeon.
There is nothing quite as permanent as a good temporary repair.

I hope to see more of this. I am wanting to see how those two pinion shafts are retained in place.
