    Default your commute to work

    How many miles?

    How long does it take?

    Is it daily?

Would you drive further for work if necessary?

12 miles. 15 minutes. daily. i'd rather drive less, but driving more wouldn't be bad depending on where it was. i hate traffic, and there's zero traffic to/from work. typically once i get out of my neighborhood i set the cruise on 60 until a mile from the office.

That depends on how many shiny things I see on the way.

Sometimes, due to the nature of my "work" (c'mon, I ain't a roofer or a ranch hand, man), I do have to travel, even commute daily.

For now, though, I just head to the SKR (the small corner of a utility room that I get to make a mess in) or the garop, if I'm actually making something.

Had been about 25 feet, if you started from the breakfast table. Not so much these days. Could also look at it as 1,450 miles round trip to the home office, once a month or so. That took three days. Or a 40-mile round trip across town and back...... I've done all kinds of distances, including a 150-mile round trip daily for six months or so. Did the bus a bit, never a train, and never had a regular commute during rush hour.

Fifteen minutes by bicycle, nine minutes by train, and a five minute walk to the office. A bit longer on the way home because it's uphill. Total distance 6 miles. Usually daily. I often work at home either part of the morning or the whole day

If not, the bicycle, then the motorcycle. That's 15 to 30 minutes depending on traffic.

I avoid taking the car because I can't use the HOV lanes and parking costs more

6-7 days/week, and I often come home for lunch... or to do some chore/office task while glue is drying, etc.

I'd drive further if I had to.

Question not asked: I most often commute in my Toyota Tundra.

7-8 minute walk. Most days my commute gives me about half an hour of walking, because I go home for lunch.

How long does it take? Depends on how fast I make coffee

Is it daily? 7 days a week 365 days a year

Would you drive further for work if necessary? NOPE

Before I retired it was a ten minute cycle ride each way. Unless it was tipping down in which case the family taxi, as it is nigh on impossible to find parking near the yard.

    About 0.004 miles

    About 1 minute

    Daily

I used to commute about 35 miles, one way, daily, but gave that up as a bad habit. Before that I used to commute about 175 miles, one way, weekly. Before that, about 2200 miles, one way, about every three months.

23 miles, usually 25-30 mins. I'd prefer not to drive that far, but finding good schools and space for a workshop closer is tough. Once i get there I usually get 4-5 miles of walking in each day.

    It takes about 20 minutes.

Honestly it's the best commute I've ever had. All 25-40mph roads, two stop signs, two traffic lights.

9 miles, 15 minutes in the morning, 25 minutes in the evening.

I used to bike it occasionally, but for the past few years I've just had too many car-necessary extracurricular errands.

We are entertaining the notion of moving. I'd have a 90-minute commute twice a week and telecommute the rest of the time. I'm not sure that this is an improvement.

About ten minutes to the coffee shop, 1-1/2 hour coffee and conversation with good friends, then ten minutes back to where I started, so one hour, 50 minutes.

Ugh! 18 miles each way, almost all Highway.

40 minutes to 1 hour bumper to bumper.

I started with the company in this building 17 years ago then the same commute was about 30 minutes. For 9 of those 17 years I was working at a location only 5 minutes from my house, but got transferred back here to this building 5 1/2 years ago.

If I had to I guess I would commute farther depending on the job.

My brother who is in politically appointed position lives in Fredericksburg, VA but commutes to Richmond each day. He hasn't wanted to move since he is at the will of the Governor who holds a 4 year term. Governors may not succeed themselves in Virginia so, every four years he has to wait and see. So far he has served under both Democratic and Republican administrations. His 50 mile commute only takes about an hour since most of the traffic is headed the opposite way during run hour.

When I first started working in Boston, my driving commute of 47 miles took 50 - 60 minutes. Then more and more people began driving and the commute was taking longer - up to 2 hours on some days. So then I started taking the train and the subway. Total commute time from the time I leave my house to when I get to my desk is 2 hours, but most of that time is spent reading, listening to music or sleeping on the train instead of driving so it's a lot less stressful but it still sucks.

1800 metres, which the google tells me is about 1.2 miles. The stated travel time of six minutes varies with lights, traffic, and construction, but five to seven minutes is usual. Maybe a couple more minutes heading home on occasion if traffic is heavy.

I wish I didn't need my car at work, as I would bike or walk instead.

What are you doing about it?

I work from home three weeks per month, then fly 865 miles to Alabama and work one week in the office.

Sugabritches is considering a job change which would result in a doubling of her current commute. It's a tough call.

    5 miles

10 minutes down a country road, more if the farmer's animals got out (pigs and buffalo)

    daily (and often weekends)

I'd drive further if necessary and pity my friends who live around DC

For me, it's about quality of life. If the quality of life isn't improved by doubling the commute - or at least isn't a meaningful and obvious step in a very likely improvement in the quality of life a little down the road - then scroooit.

Career satisfaction is grand so long as one is one of the slice of the population who really primarily gets off on one's career. For most of us - and to be honest, for most humans throughout history - the job is how we pay for our life. Great if it's meaningful, greater yet if we find it engaging and satisfying. But the big satisfaction centres in most of our brains get lit up by what the job provides, not what the job is.

A job is a means to help support us as we go about the work of growing into the people we aspire to be. No less, but no more. Choose accordingly.
