Still here... Port Charlotte, sandwiched between Fort Myers & Sarasota.

It's overcast, gusty, with light rain; has been for hours.

Neighborhood is quiet now,- yesterday was saw, saw, saw; drill, drill, drill; hammer, hammer, hammer.

Hope the voyage is a long one.

Those generators will be gold......... If I lose power, I have to drop the carb off the one
in the motorhome...... Hasn't been started in about 7 years, clean it and hope.......

I talked to Lefty yesterday. Said it was a beautiful day. They are in a substantial house now somewhere west of Gainesville. Sounded like they were as ready as can be. Hoping they don't have too much damage.
I'm more worried about my relatives waiting it out in Venice and Plant City.

CCmanuals house is on the water in Port Richey just north of Clearwater / St. Pete. He will need luck.

    Hope so! Fairly well inland.

Near as I can guesstimate, the eye'll be passing us near low tide. That may help, may not matter -- they're giving 8 - 12 inches (200 mm - 300 mm) rain possible.

Hope the voyage is a long one.

My experience with Sandy is that storm surge doesn't come--it's just suddenly there.

    Good luck all.

I have a friend who owns a house on one of the canals in Naples. He's not there now; he has a guy who looks after the property when he's not there. He owns a 42' powerboat, sitting on a lift on the breakwater at the edge of his property. If the storm surge is greater than, say 8-9 ft, that boat is going to float right off the lift.

    1500 (3:00 PM)EDT, 1900 UTC 2017-09-10

Center's over 100 mi (160 km) away, just had really strong squall pass, heavy rain & erratic gusts. Power hiccupped a couple of times, still on. Lost phone signal for few minutes.

    Good luck, everyone.

Saw a dragonfly in the wind shadow of a tree dart out into the wind, then beat his way upstream & do it again. Local doves disappeared a couple of hours ago. No birdsong, crickets or frogs singing. Yesterday I saw the buzzards riding the wind out of Dodge -- lucky bustards! WHERE'S MY FLYING CAR?!

Hope the voyage is a long one.

Remember High C's boat....... During Katrina, floated up, mast poked a hole through the floor,
water receded, boat Sat back down......

Let's hope that is the worst that happens.......

    7:00 PM EDT, 23:00 UTC

Sustained tropical storm force winds gusting to hurricane strength, heavy rain, no lightning. Power occasionally flickering but still on, intermittent loss of cell signal.

Looks as though the center will pass just east of me in a few hours; I'm a bit west of the '75' shield.

Here's the National Weather Service Tampa radar long range scan. You can see the eye between Naples & Fort Myers.

Hope the voyage is a long one.

We too are getting storm force winds, gusts getting pretty strong, shelter on
lockdown now..... Info I am getting saying winds should peak about 10-11 o'clock.
Your map makes it seem later.

Sorry, cross-posted to your "Stuck..." thread:

    8:00 PM EDT Posit: 26.7 N, 81.7 W.
    Your posit approx 27.7 N, 81.5 W
If it maintains present course & speed (355 & 14 mph), the center will be passing about 10 miles west of you in about 4 hours.
Keep your head down, and Good Luck.

Still in one piece. Eye is just now passing to the east. Getting a few lulls, but vicious bands of squalls crash through fast. Looks like the south side may be drier, even if it stays windy. You may get a drier patch soon, Tampa radar shows light rain rotating around toward you.

No offense intended, but I hope you know that if the eye passes over you, stay inside. The eye wall will slap you silly, and you'll never see it coming in the dark. Hang on, buddy, still many hours to get through.

Hope the voyage is a long one.

I have a frog & a cricket outside thinking things are getting better,- though I think the cricket may be suicidal, tempting the frog that way.

I am bunkered down with my MIL in a concrete mid-rise close to upper Tampa Bay, Clearwater. My wife is at the Largo EOC for the duration doing emergency response and recovery planning. We picked-up everything loose at our place in Safety Harbor and tied down all the boats under the house. And the neighbors were taking this serious with plywood in the windows, and driving around in expanding concentric circles looking for gas and water. The real answer is not to plan on any drive-about for a few days, and fill a couple of carboys.
The winds are just getting above tropical storm and into Cat 1 territory. It's dark so it isn't that scary. It will leave a mess! The big concern is the storm surge after the storm passes. Models show worst case Pinellas County turns into two islands. There are vast developments of not great manufactured homes, some grossly decrepit. There will be lot of people with minimal resources, make that none, who are going to be ruined.
It's starting to get noisy outside, stuff hitting the windows. MIL wants to move all the couch cushions out into the corridor. I don't think it's an issue until we loose a window, not likely.

Hang in and keep us posted as you can. I have friends from safety harbor who fled inland....... They were right at the top of the bay, on the water..

Power out in Port Charlotte. Saw lights from exploding transformers way south, they marched north & darkness fell. Almost made it through. Too bad the sky isn't clear, I'd break out the binocs for some stargazing. Rain & wind easing off.

    Take Care, folks.

I have a friend in Estero that was posting regularly until the eye of the storm hit. Had water covering his road at that point. No updates since which is VERY unusual for him. I'm a bit concerned. Hopefully it's just a internet connectivity issue.

most likely tom or he is just busy doing the basic things to stay dry, safe and sound. I'm sure he will surface in good time.
