Default Mid Atlantic Small Craft Festival, Oct 7-8, 2017

Since we couldn't swing the trip to Port Townsend this year we are going down to St. Michaels, Md for the MASCF. Hopefully we'll bring the Nutshell Pram that my daughter built, we are working on the sail rig now.
So who else is going? We'll be camping Saturday night, come and say hi!

I'll be there with my reconfigured Whisp and the "Prohibition Stripper" kayak.

I'll be there with a Drascombe Dabber (it is plastic, but it is also 41 years old and has a lug rig, at least). Look for a tall skinny guy with a short grey beard and black plastic glasses.

It is always good to meet people face to face, finally.

Planning to motor in on our BlueJacket 28 with a qualifying dinghy! Any suggestions for a decent launch ramp and parking area for our truck and trailer? Don't want to cross the bay from Sandy Point in October. Thanks, Rick

There's a ramp under the bridge on the east side of Kent Island. But seriously, you can cross the bay easily in October in that boat.

We hope to be there Friday evening with our Oughtred tender. Looking forward to this. Donuts in the morning while walking the docks...

I'm getting packed. Looks like at least 6 forumites attending. Anyone else?

The weather looks ideal Friday and Saturday. Maybe some rain Sunday.

Yay! Just about finished making it into a sailboat. Just need to install the rudder hardware and throw it on top of the car.

I have no trouble launching 25' Miss Sue at the larger of the two ramps in St Michael's harbor. The ramp falls of quickly, gaining sufficient depth and there's plenty of room to get the truck and trailer lined up.

Well that took a couple of hours longer than I thought. But we are finally headed South on the Maine Turnpike. We have a couple of stops to make but we’ll be at the Festival early Saturday morning.

Trevor was not happy about being left behind.

I think Jim (Skegamog) is going. He has taken his Coquina before. I am going sans boat for my first time with my wife just to have a good time looking and talking boats. I hope to bring my little Tom Cat next year.

What a beautiful day here in Maryland! Way too hot for us Northerners but I guess that’s to be expected here in The Deep South.

We we spent the morning finishing the sail rig for the Nutshell Pram. Then had a great sail around the buoys with the rest of the fleet.

Here’s a shot of the most dramatic moment of the race:

Was it some type of beer relay-race?

    Looks like a great day!

Actually Mary and I won the Endurance award. I’m not sure if it was for the 9 hour drive to get here or the amount of time it took us to get around the bouys.

One person was signed up to do the lap around Kent Island but never checked in. I and one other person were signed up to do the lap around Wye Island. I did it by myself. It took about 6 hours to get to the entrance to Solo Cove on the north side of Wye Island.

I would have thought a Coquina would run away from a catboat quite easily on a close reach. Interesting.

It did: the video was made from a boat underway, the moving vanatge point obscures the fact that the Coquina is sailing much higher on the wind than the marshcat, the boats had been dueling it out on the previous downwind leg and the Coquina had just overtaken the marshcat at the mark and headed up wind leaving the marshcat behind.

That Nutshell looks like a lot of fun. There's something to be said for going small.

Darn. Why aren't there more interested in this when the Everglades Challenge draws such a huge crowd? Is it lack of publicity? I wasn't ready this year, but I'd like to at least do the Wye Island loop.

The Wye Island loop is easily doable in a day. Total distance is about 25 miles. I camped over at Solo Cove with the rest of the gunkholers.
