This is a field owned by the germans though sometimes rented by the japanese, they gave us Audi's A3 - the imagination required to have a designer name a car after his favourite size of paper defies belief but the genius followed that masterstroke with - the A4 and then - clearly on a roll - the A5, A6, A7 and A8.

Proceeding alphabetically we get the BMW who sometimes omit the alphabetic charaters altogether - who among us will forget the 1502 or the imaginatively named follow-up the 1602.

    Porsche - 356, 911, 914, 928........

Don't get me started on japanese motorcycles....

Then there's the Volkswagen. The peoples car, how very socialist sounding and deliberately so of course.

Many of the American car names seem to be very aggressively masculine.

Nissan Cedric. You know you've made it in life (in one way or another) when you can happily drive something that sounds like that and looks like this.

Interesting - I have never heard a Fiat 500 referred to as a 'Bambini' before? That one is a 'Jolly'.

VW Variant. My parents had one, a 1960s version and I suppose it did have some variations from other cars...

There is no rational, logical, or physical description of how free will could exist. It therefore makes no sense to praise or condemn anyone on the grounds they are a free willed self that made one choice but could have chosen something else. There is no evidence that such a situation is possible in our Universe. Demonstrate otherwise and I will be thrilled.

I don't name my cars, but I get why some people do. I will on occasion use pet eptithets for particular parts or systems, as in, to a recalictrant bolt, 'get on there, you bastard.'

I do enjoy naming things, though. I like giving the dog who lives in my house a new name each time I go for a walk and he wants to come. 'Come on, Soupbone, let's amble,' or, 'Step it up, Gussie, we're burning daylight.' He likes that. We don't actually ever burn daylight, though.
