Swetsville zoo, lots of unusual creatures welded from old auto and farm equipment. Not much on the roadside anymore, but the new bike path goes right by and makes a nice stop. His property is in the middle of a new development zone, and some of the collection has already been sold off or moved.

This guy is just down the street from me (actually about 5 miles).

He only visits for a month or so each year. Does that still count.

Several years ago, PBS had a program called A Program About Unusual Buildings & Other Roadside Stuff (Link). It was part of a series that included fleamarkets, seashore attractions, old-time amusement parks, best sandwich, best hot dog, ice cream.....

Your local PBS might have some of them scheduled.

When I was a kid, we'd spend weekends camping & fishing in the Keys or the Glades. We saw this often. They say they took it down because airline pilots not familiar with Miami Approach kept reporting "aircraft down" to the tower.

Built in the 1960s, this building was once a private airport with a hanger and restaurant. It was rather eye-catching from the road due to the passenger plane mounted to its roof as decoration. It was eventually purchased by the National Park Service in the 1980s, to be used as a visitor center.

Today, the building serves as the Oasis Visitor Center. Inside, there are exhibits related to the natural and cultural history of the preserve, educational materials, sales items, and an introductory film. National Park Service staff are available to assist visitors with information about available activities.

Ours was a crop duster. The plane was mounted nose down on top of the gas pump shade.

    It is gone, now.
