Default Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder - AAADD

[IMc - Found wandering about in the ether.]

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table,
put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills
    back
on the table and take out the garbage first.

    But then I think,
since Iím going to be near the mailbox
when I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table,
and see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
so I go inside the house to my desk where
    I find the
can of Pepsi Iíd been drinking.

Iím going to look for my checks,
but first I need to push the Pepsi aside
so that I donít accidentally knock it over.

    The Pepsi is getting warm,
and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi,
a vase of flowers on the counter
    catches my eyeĖthey need water.

I put the Pepsi on the counter and
    discover my reading glasses that
Iíve been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk,
but first Iím going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter,
fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
Iíll be looking for the remote,
but I wonít remember that itís on the kitchen table,
so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
but first Iíll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers,
but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table,
get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to
remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day:
    the car isnít washed
    the bills arenít paid
there is a warm can of
    Pepsi sitting on the counter
the flowers donít have enough water,
there is still only 1 check in my check book,
    I canít find the remote,
    I canít find my glasses,
and I donít remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
Iím really baffled because I know I was busy all the damn day,
    and Iím really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem,
and Iíll try to get some help for it,
but first Iíll check my e-mailÖ.

    Do me a favor.
Forward this message to everyone you know,
because I donít remember who the hell Iíve sent it to.

Donít laugh ó if this isnít you yet, your day is coming!!

    Also called pottering.

My Dad did something funny a few years ago.
Fell asleep in front of the TV with the remote control in his hand. Someone came to the door and rang the doorbell startling him awake. He lifted the remote control to his ear as if a telephone and said "hello??".

Triple wrong. I laughed for hours.

Mom, please get Dad to drink gin instead of vodka so people will think he's drunk, not demented

I put it down to my wife.
I start the day with a list of pre-determined priorities, but hardly get one started before ''Before you do that can you do this?" and this, and that, and at the end of the day "Why isn't the first job done, what have you done all day?"……………………….

I suffer from the malady. It leads to a bit of anxiety as I try and remember what I first set out to do, then relief, when I recall it. It seems to manifest most when I head out to the garage to retrieve some item; instead, I get engaged in a variety of minor tasks, then return to the house without the item. If the wife requested the item, a quick sprint back out to the garage occurs, and then...

When you can't remember where you were when Kennedy was assassinated, is the time to be concerned.

That was a good idea about taking the remote back to the den. Really should have just stuck with that one.

That's not attention deficit disorder; it's too much attention. He's paying attention to the garden, and the car, and the mail, and the garbage, and the bills, and the checkbook, and the Pepsi, and the flowers, and the glasses, and the remote . . . Obliviousness works a lot better.
