Default Some more boat photos, Belfast, Maine

This is a new thread, because the old one kicked the photobucket.

A nice pair of wooden boats, Sadie G. Thomas and Rok 'Oppa:

The lobster boat is brand spanking new, built by Traditional Boats in Unity, Maine. I doubt that it will ever see a stack of lobster traps on its stern.

The windows and hatches had exterior mounted piano hinges. I wonder if some other hinges might have been more aesthetic.

I noticed these blocks with upright springs at a boat show booth, and the guy said that they are about $400 apiece:

    That's all for now!

Yes, it is a bit odd that, after all the attention paid to varnished hatches and beaded window frames and such, that the builders would mount the piano hinges that way. Too bad, it's otherwise a lovely boat.
Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

And, mmd, without a groove routed in vertical lip of hatch, condensation and spray can wick up, over and into cabin.

Yesterday I rowed about in the mist.

Rok 'Oppa is now on a mooring:

Compare with a 1960s era wooden lobster boat, my neighbor at the wharf this past winter:

A nice gaff-rig, with a Crocker just to the left, and a fine example of a Lyle Hess just to the right:
