Then it starts to rain...and out comes...the umbrella.

In his defense, it is a Filson.

But he only has one on board. And he's awfully smug about it.

Didn't one of the Herreshoffs once say that "any umbrella found in a boat should be thrown over the side"? Nevertheless, we have a large umbrella in our boat.

Well I love my dodger, bimini, and awning! Would've been fried to a crispy lobster without them.

As a Seattlite who is inordinately fond of Filson kit... one should realize that Filson has not been what it used to be, since Ralph Lauren bought >45% of the company a few years back.

My dodger and bimini was the best investment I ever made, for my boat. I don't see the virtue in being freezing cold and wet, or being roasted by the sun while you develop skin cancer.

The umbrella works best on a beam reach.

You are expecting non-convoluted logic from a wooden boat owner? Really?

I read the title and thought this was a baseball thread! Before opening it my reaction was .....Well, who in the hell does? Go Nats!

Being of fair skin color, I think a little sun and wind protection can make for a more pleasant experience.

A friend was down to the Portland East End launch ramp and reported that a sloop owner had fitted a small truck bed cap to his boat. I wished he'd taken a picture.

By the way, I would take Lee's words with a grain of salt; he, afterall, at one point shouted, "There's an animal in here! There's an animal in here!"

I only repeated myself because it was fluttering on the cabin sole the way a vampire bat would do before jumping up to bite your nads.

Or fluttering on the cabin sole like a little lost petrel that stunned himself on the companionway hatch. It could have gone either way.
