Eric Deaton moved from North Carolina to Mississippi straight out of high school and entered a higher education program of moonshine-fueled hill country blues at the world-renowned Junior Kimbrough's juke joint in the mid to late '90's. Apprenticing under the late trance-blues masters Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside (and various other members of their extended families), Eric was thoroughly immersed in the North Mississippi blues tradition. He played, lived and toured with other Mississippi blues artists such as T-Model Ford, Paul 'Wine' Jones, and Big Bad Smitty. (From his biography on Facebook)

The Garry Burnside Band performing "Going Down South"
This is one of Garry's father's songs. Garry Burnside (lead guitar, vocals), Nathan Robbins (bass), Andrea Staten (guitar) and Wallace Lester (drums). Y'all have already been introduced to everybody except Nate. Garry is Cedric's uncle although they are about the same age.

I miss seeing L.C. Ulmer. RIP. I actually made it into this video in the reflection in the window behind LC. I saw him the last time about 6 months after this.

Jimmy "Duck" Holmes' hands and guitar were recently used on a USPS postage stamp commemorating the 200th anniversary of Mississippi statehood. Mr. Holmes puts on the free annual Bentonia Blues Festival the 3rd weekend of June every year.

At the beginning of the last video, Duck Holmes was calling for Terry 'Harmonica' Bean. Here Terry is.

"Corrine, Corrina" was first recorded in 1928 by Sam's brother Armenter Chatmon aka Bo Carter. Sam used to often fish in the state park where I worked in 1976. Both brothers were members of the Mississippi Sheiks and Sam claimed they were half brothers of Charley Patton.

This video was recorded last fall at the Sam Chatmon Festival in Hollandale, MS. Sitting on Top of the World was written by Sam's brother Lonnie Chatmon and Walter Vinson. It was first recorded in 1930 by the Mississippi Sheiks of which Sam, Lonnie and Walter all were members.
I met Robert Eskew and heard him perform this spring.
