    Default Sultan of Swing

As nominal head of these regions, as befits the post, and by the powers vested in me, temporary as they are, I would like to offer the post of Sultan of Swing, with all honors and responsibilities thus entailed, to Jimmy W. To my mind a most worthy nominee.

Should the position be accepted it will be your responsibility to keep this thread hot and high on the page, serving up what you know best, to the benefit of all.

May the Bilge be uplifted by your efforts, Sir!

I have lived about two thirds of my life in Georgia, but was born and raised in Mississippi. This thread will contain many people with ties to Mississippi and I hope to introduce you to more that you didn't know.

I don't know how I never heard that.
Looks like Ledger has hijacked Jimmy from the BYOB thread.
This will be fun! Jimmy has a wealth of knowledge about his music and is a damn good man.

No, I didn't know where Jerry Jeff was from. Here is a lady from Mississippi that has moved across the state line to Mobile, Alabama.

I had thought he was from Pennsylvania, but you are correct. Oneonta, NY.

Birth name was Ronald Clyde Crosby.

'Ronnie Clyde', just doesn't have the same 'ring' to it!

My connection has been too slow to hang in the byob, but dang if I haven't quintupled my musical library since "meeting" Jimmy.
My two other requests are Cary Hudson, and, well, I THINK Jimmy knows the other one I want to hear. Oh, yeah, that "kid".

    Peace,
    Robert

I decided that I can add some photos to this thread. The Botophucket thing makes me have to upload them again, this time to Photos.google.com.

The first time that I saw Shannon in post 7, she was playing rhythm along with Andrea for Garry Burnside's band. I didn't know who Shannon and Andrea were then, but knew Garry had the best looking band that I saw that day. Andrea and I have gotten to know each other since then.

    The kid that Robert requested.

    Christone 'Kingfish' Ingram

This video recorded in March says that Kingfish was 17 years old, so he could be 18 now. I'm not sure, but think that he might have just graduated from high school. I heard that he was still in high school last fall. Christone lives in Clarksdale, Mississippi and is a cousin of Charley Pride.

    Kingfish plays "Hey Joe"

Oh, yeah! I could never forget his name, just don't want to drop to many spoilers and instructions. Just three of the many names I've learned from you, good sir.

Oh, I just love to watch Kingfish play. You can FEEL his love for the guitar. He obviously loves what he's doing, and he does it well.

    Peace,
    Robert

I don't know who that is on bass. Terry 'Harmonica' Bean could probably tell me who that is. He is from near that area.

He is just a special kid.

They have since divorced, but Cary Hudson and his then wife Laurie had a band named Blue Mountain. Laurie is the twin sister of John Stirratt, the bass player for the band Wilco.

The Blue Mountain song was an example of Mississippi Hill Country Blues. It has been said that when the Delta Blues went to Chicago, Hill Country Blues is what stayed in Mississippi. John Lee Hooker was from the Delta, but was influenced by the hill country music.

The following is an excerpt from "Deep Blues" a British documentary film released in 1991. Junior did put out some albums after that. You will hear more from these musicians in this thread.

The bass player with Junior Kimbrough in post 27 was Little Joe Ayers, here he is again. This was filmed and put on YouTube by Andrea, the blonde in the photo in post 14. Andrea introduced me to Little Joe in April. I spoke with him again about 2 weeks ago.
