Default Redwing goes north, take two

I've been trying to get Redwing north to a boatyard for badly needed repair work since last November. However lack of funds, floods and other acts of life have conspired against me.
However at around 10.40am tomorrow that will change because I should be crossing the Tweed River bar at that time. Wind and weather are in my favour for the 15 mn run up to the Gold Coast Seaway. The haulout at Boatworks is slated for 7am Thursday morning and I will be out of the water for at least 7 days...hopefully that will be long enough as there is a fair bit to do.
I won't be able to post photos unless I find a free wifi spot up there but I will make up for that when I get back. I go back in the water on the 6th July, my birthday, Kez will join me and we will cruise up into Moreton Bay for a few days.
    Well that's it for now.
My take is that if you poke someone with a sharp stick they'll get annoyed, if you smile and shake their hand they will be your friends.

Fare well! Cruising through to Moreton Bay sounds nice! Say hi to the crews of Lavinda and 3rd Wish at Boatworks.

Are they in a wet berth or on the hard Rick?

Down here shopping malls have free wi fi, and some McD's as well.

Good breezes for the run, and hopefully no nasty surprises on the hard.

Arrived 10am after a two hour motor from where we spent the night off Soutb Stradbroke Island. Av speed from Tweed to Southport 3 knots. Which considering the state of the bottom is not bad.we were clocking 4-5 knots at times. I hoping they have wifi here. Rick, David found me and we will have a coffee later.

Bottom wasn't as bad as I expected and it looks like the pressure wash has cleaned off most of it.

The rot has turned into a quite depressing horror movie. I've spent the whole day just working on the port side of the transom. Most of the framing was shot. Port side gunwale and tail end of two stringers shot. Very depressing and I find myself thinking about chainsaws. Anyway I'm going to see if I can put myself in debt to yet another friend and do the job. Oh and to just twist the knife a section of ply I repaired the side deck with, wasn't exterior grade. It's all delaminates, which I guess is better than my first thought which is it had rotted.

Depressing but not catastrophic. I won't bore you again with sheathing recommendations. Rather, I can remind you of one of the big advantages of plywood which is that it's always repairable as long as you have chisels, preferably a router, and glue. Cut out all the rotten bits and grave/scarf in new bits - in any direction. Don't skimp - if it's grey, wet or black - it's rotting. Get it waterproof. Enjoy your tour of Moreton Bay!

I know it's not as easy as it sounds but it's doable if you stick to the fundamentals. Good luck - sorry you have to do more than you thought you might.

The router got a workout today. The repairs will not as described in Richard Hartley books on boat building.
i don't know what grave means but I tend to use butt straps as I'm not that good at scarfing in stuff.
