Jeff there's a V12 Packard Coupe in the weeds behind a barn just outside of Hell. Its been parked since at least before I was born. I asked the owner once if he'd sell it. Grumpy old man said, "Show me the money!"

Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

Sad Paul, he'll die, the car will be so far gone it's likely a dump job.

When we bought our place here from a hermit there were 15 old cars of various values on the block. Most had been driven onto the block, dismantled to be 'improved' and then slowly rusted away. One vehicle was drivable, a big Chev V8 but was so far from roadworthy it wasn't funny. No seats in the front (they were in the shed) and he sat on a big round section of tree to drive it for example. The all went to the recycler, one had two tiger snakes living in the trunk.
Very sad. A Vietnam vet, effected by AO, his children were effected and died early, divorced, pot and booze, a stroke and a big car crash, epilepsy, depression, high blood pressure, dementia. Died at 62.
A very unfortunate life, all thrown away by a lie for political kudos.

    Love me some Packard.

In high-school I played 2nd trombone in a community production of The Music Man. The 1st trombonist had a '29 Packard he drove to a couple of rehearsals and shows. I never got to ride in it, but I thought it was about the coolest damn thing I'd ever seen. I've lusted after Packards ever since.

A mate of mine at Uni had one and there were several in the family. His father was the spares man for the local Packard club too... the house was full of Packard car parts (his mother had long since left the father).

I find it amazing that the factory is still there now

I had a 29 Marmon for a while. Got it free minus the front wheels.

When I was in high school a man who worked with my father had a junk yard near here. He had a white Packard convertible about like the one that Keith posted in 13 that had hit a tree. The front bumper, grill, and the hood and radiator were bent in, but the rest of the car was in very good condition. I loved that car then and wish I had had the money to buy and restore it.

Years ago I was in lust with a girl who WAS one! (A Packard, that is...) Wrong branch of the family for any money, but her coachwork was definitely "Packard Quality". Forty years on she still turns heads, just like the cars.

Had one of these on the farm when I was kid- 1926 Oakland. Also a 1936 Dodge with a broken dif and a bullet hole through a door. When the property was split up we had a big sale and sold two V12 Cadillacs. If my memory serves the '36 made about five hundred dollars and the '35- running well and with a spare motor- made six hundred. The previous property owner who had bought the Cadillacs in the first place also bought an Armstrong Sidley, just because it was the car that the Queen drove in on her first visit to Australia. It was blue but he promptly had it resprayed black I saw that car a few years ago- fully restored and looking good. JayInOz

The convertible above is to my eye the least impressive of all the other Packards posted.
