Default Another Dumb Boat (I have a problem)

Well. We needed another dumb little boat, what for doing dumb boating in. Rowing style, his time.
Well, I had some plans and some plywood, and I have gloop and glass on hand, for some reason, so I made a boat. It took 8 days of part time work.

This is the part of the boat that punches the water in the face. The dismembered legs used to be the puppy's bunny. Now it is a creepy pair of dismembered legs she carries around.

The day we finally ripped it in half playing tug of war, she ran around the yard parading and tossing her half in the air, then shaking it vigorously. Kind of scary from a 120 pound puppy.

Oh, aside from the tapes shown, she got covered all over outside with 6oz cloth, mostly to protect her from being as badly dinged and cut as without.

Okay, the outwale/rubrails aren't too junky. There is another layer on the finished boat, so the rails ended up being 1 1/2" x 1".

Perhaps you can notice I have done a terrible job of filling the weave? So?

Oh, yeah, man. Breasthook and quarter knees are laminated from some aquatek ply. The canoe style thwarts are pine, and their cleats are offcuts from the rails. The butt thwart is loose. It can be moved or removed. Speaking of butts, like my buttblocks? Sexy, eh? Oh, the skeg is also a piece of pine.

Hey, how can I call this boat quick and dirty if the weave is all filled and there aren't ugly plywood buttblocks?

The paint is mistinted porch and floor bought cheap. The lower panels got a coat of "deck restore" style paint first. It's tough and a little gritty. Worked well so far in the punt.

You might can just make out the holes drilled in the rail to take the thole pins. Single pin for each pair in each position (two rowing positions, but only one rower, eh) Did I mention cheap?

Luckily, I found some ugly, blurry kids at the beach to try it out.

    Peace,
    Robert

Quite a nice dumb little boat, and you blurry findings on the beach seem quite pleased, in a blurry kind of way. All good fun.

Thanks all. I figured I may as well share some boatbuilding like activities, eh?

The best part is she uses the same size oars as my beachcruiser. Whoo-hoo!

She is not nearly as tidily as she looks, and does move easily. I can't wait to use it one day. Heh.

    Peace,
    Robert

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

    Thanks you.
Guess what? No tape in the inner fillets. I know! Crazy, right? I learned it from some guy named after a boat.

Goodness goodness, I'm sorry I forgot to mention the design.

Skaraborgcraft nailed it. It's a Robote design by Michalak. It's light enough to tow down to the water behind my push bike, and large enough to carry a passenger or my overnight crud.

    Peace,
    Robert
