Default Aage Nielsen yachts at Classic Yacht Symposium in Castine

Aage Nielsen will be the yacht designer recognized during the annual classic yacht symposium at Castine, Maine, this year.

Part of the traditional yachting race week in Penobscot Bay, the symposium will be Wednesday, August 2. A number of Nielsen-designed yachts will gather at the town dock starting at noon. So far, six yachts have committed to the gathering, and I'm sure many more will let me know their intentions soon.

The symposium will start at 4 p.m. I'll give a short presentation about Nielsen, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Doug Adkins. Both will be held at the Maine Maritime Academy.

    See http://castineclassic.com for more details.

Many of the Nielsen yachts will race in the Castine Classic Yacht Race to Camden, Thursday, August 3. On Friday, August 4, the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta feeder race is from Camden to Brooklin. The ERR itself will be Satuday, August 5; see http://www.erregatta.com for details.

We are planning on going up to Castine for this. Who else is coming? I am going to look for my copy of "Worthy of the Sea" right now to reread a few sections. It looks like lots of Nielsen's designs will be there. 14 is the latest count I've heard.

I'm going down and back in the same day. In-law type family arriving for a visit. Can't be away overnight. (Doesn't sit well. )

With Doug Adkins moderating ya'al are in for a real treat! He is very knowledgeable, has been the owner of a beautiful Concordia Yawl for many years, wrote a wonderful book on "Dorade", and has a huge fund of jokes and funny stories.
Wish I could be there for this, and to ogle examples of Aage Nielsen's design genius.

I said hello for you, Paul. Doug (and his wife?) send their regards right back, thanking you especially for taking such good care of their boat(s?)

Sorry I don't have pics to post yet but they'll be along soon. The boats were stunning and the owners very friendly and welcoming. So glad we went.
