    Default Montana Cat

I was surprised to find this on "my" little lake yesterday. Anyone know who or what it is? I don't think I've seen a rig quite like that where the mast pivots with the sail.

You can see how calm it is in the image. I watched them for a while and they were moving around OK. By the time I got home, the wind was howling through the pines. I went to the deck in time to just catch them approaching the ramp. I think they were lucky.

    Some sort of proa?

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

I'm guessing a shunting proa. The mast moving with the sail thing sounds like shunting.

Think more a forth and back motion than tacking.

Then again, I'm guessing with little info.

    Peace,

That looks like a rudder behind the fellow in the blue shirt, so maybe not a proa?
There is nothing quite as permanent as a good temporary repair.

You must make friends with these folk and bring back the whole story. Looks very specific.

I searched the www and it does appear to be some sort of shunting proa. I wonder what it is about this type of boat that would make it worthwhile in Montana or could this have been the shake-down for a Pacific crossing?
