    Default Visiting Baltimore? Be careful.

One of our pilots on a layover in downwtown Baltimore was mugged and seriously injured. This was during daylight hours 2 blocks from the Marriot Inner Harbor. He was savagely beaten by 3 teenage thugs. Fortunately he is out of the hospital and back home.

Hopefully we will change layover locations. Annapolis would be nice.

Thanks for that I was supposed to go there last Saturday but got sent to Harrisburg PA instead. Will turn down Baltimore if it comes up again.

I've visited the city by boat many times, and for business several times also. Never a problem, and as big cities go it's much more convenient to transient cruisers than most. Lot's of marinas an easy walk to the restaurants and museums. And you can tie up at Fells Point for free. But yeah, there are bad eggs and bad incidents everywhere.

Baltimore newspaper doesn't agree with you, and cites specific reasons for recent runaway increase in crime. They ask why does Chicago get all the sympathy for crime when Baltimore is a war zone in comparison. It doesn't prove much to have strolled thru it occasionally in times past with no obvious threats - I remember great times at their downtown harbor boat show. I used to pass easily thru one of the worst neighborhoods until one day I had a bad limp and was looked at like lions do at a weak animal of the herd.

What, a newspaper headlining "crime surge" ? Must be true. And there was I thinking the guy didn't get shot, so not so bad.

Hard to make a trend out of one incident good or bad. I bet someone got mugged in the middle of a rural paradise somewhere today. I am also just as sure that someone walked through a " bad" neighborhood last night without being mugged. We can infer nothing from either incident.

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

    Sorry to hear it.

We too have had incidents all around the world. Sao Paulo is quite bad.
