As some of you might know I started a thread in Building and Repair that has been ongoing for a number of years about the construction of a catboat. At any given time there might be a half dozen active participants posting on the thread, coming and going, changing over time, helping to push the narrative along. Beneath the surface, though, is a sea of Lurkers, quietly watching for reasons known only to themselves.
A few weeks ago I received a PM from a fellow who said that he had been following the thread from the beginning, but had yet to post here on the Forum. He went on to explain how he himself had started a build years ago, but as happens, life got in the way and the project had to be sidelined. He told me that his dad, since passed away, had bought him a bell for his boat. He asked if I would like to have this bell for the catboat. Naturally, I agreed and anxiously awaited its arrival.
And what a bell! Heavy cast brass and a lovely tone when struck! A most wonderful gift.
The generous poster's name is Rick, and he goes under the handle, Hawkeye54. I'd like to welcome you. Rick, to the Forum, and thank you for this most generous and thoughtful gift. There will be a front row seats reserved for you...and a guest, on the reviewing stand at the launch.
Thank you, again, Rick, and I shall make every effort to make the boat worthy of its new bell.
