Well within the realm of positive stability. Though I might throw in a reef. Nothing to see here... move along...
When you can take the pebble from my hand, it will be time for you to leave.
Pffft. Racers.
Might be time to think about easing off on the main. Is that a tabernacle I see at the base of that mast? They are handy, but on a boat that size?
I was born on a wooden boat that I built myself.
Not a tabernacle. The halyard wire reel winches are mounted on those sampson planks that are buried in the partners. You can see the space between the starboard unit and the mast.
Oooooohhhh!!
Just look at all those wire reel winches. Lottsa chances for disaster.
Never let anybody near one who doesn't know how to properly ease one off.
Schooner captains love to get blown offshore!
Oh! So THAT'S why he's called Chum. This fishing charter still sucks...

Like ELO sang: Hold on tight!!!!
Especially the guy apparently in charge of the sheet ... Maybe he is trying to ease it a bit?
Does the monohull have leeboards?? Why everybody to leeward?
Oracle skipper is above, and beyond!
?Why everybody to leeward
Because the only place to stand is the lee rail.....Not ideal.
At that angle of course a leeboard will be having almost no effect. The crew pictured are not far from being pitched into the sea, just a bump by a wave would do it. I see no evidence of a safety line.
I thought maybe they are trying to clear a jammed sheet, or something?
No need to be concerned about a tabernacle.Done properly they have a step at the base that locates the mast heel. The sides just happen to provide a good place to put a pivot, which shouldn't be under load when sailing. The Dutch Skutsje's are known to have capsized when raced hard,I couldn't claim enough knowledge of the type to identify one though.
An argument for bulwarks.

There may be a few clench marks in that deck, where the guys are leaning against it.
The poor fellow with his hand on the bulwark looks perilously close to overboard. It's the boot about a meter out from the rail and against the sheet that I can't quite fathom. Did Mr. Bulwark lose his boot or is there somebody underwater still attached to said boot?
ETA: I just noticed the guy behind him has a hand on his PFD keeping him aboard

Boats, like whiskey, are all good.

His boot is against the leeboard, you can see the dark wood on it's top with the sheet going behind it. I wonder if it's trapped behind the leeboard?
And the picture was taken by someone even farther forward
I'm puzzled by what the nearest guy is hauling on, very far forward, and in that weather, a line like that is going to have superhuman strain on it
Is the camera being held level?
Enjoy a good rum on the rocks at sunset.
Is that sheet caught on the leeboard, and that is why the fellow aft is in that very precarious position?
And the guy nearest, maybe he is just hanging on for dear life!
Man half in the water also has his hand on a slack line, likely the one the man nearest is reeling in. My guess is a trapped sheet behind the leeboard and because of the force of the water now difficult to release, or a jammed block also under water on the traveller/horse.
My guess too (post #14).
I wonder, is the near man that’s holding the line maybe belaying the man half in the water?
Yellow pants seems to have his right toe (I really like his shoes) placed purposely on the end of that line.
It’s an intriguing photo, and brings to mind having sharp knives and hatchets at hand.
There's video of those dutch barges capsizing. The heck with that.
