They used to have, "bar cars," on the LIRR! Those were the days!

Edit: I'm actuallly riding the LIRR today.

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

I was here then. Also for the rolling bars on the platforms.

Now, all booze must be carried internally, and on days like today, much is.

No more bar cars on the LIRR? What about Metro North?

The last 4 bar cars on the New Haven Line were shut down in 2012, but, starting with a prototype in 2018, 10 new 'Cafe (Bar) Cars' will be back in service.

The new service will be for Connecticut only, and will not be on Westchester/Sound Shore lines.

Ya know, I'm riding the rails again today. There was a time when I was doing so regularly. Then groups of people would always take the same train and sit in the same seats-- for years and years. These folks would be having gam sessions, or poker games, or folks who played the horses or lottery pools or knitters or whatever. They'd even hold birthdays and honor other events. Everyday they'd all meet... but not in their, " real life;" not off the train.

Thinking on it now it was very forumish.

Today, like myself, everyone's eyes are fixed to a screen. The only beverage I can see from my seat is the girl with her own non-vapor-emitting plastic personalized water bottle. It's a far cry from the, " tall boy, " can of Budweiser that, to all appearances, was the rail-riders drink of choice back when. And of course, the cliques and comraderie have passed into time as well

I remember riding the LIRR with my Mad Man father from Woodside to Coldspring Harbor. Sitting in the bar car having a Coke.
