    Default Amazing Boat Paintings!

I came across a painting by this gent in an auction catalogue that was being discarded today...
Charles Napier Hemy. Wow! These are great. I'll put a few here, but you owe it to yourself to look him up.

I definitely see the boats F. Vivier's designs are descended from...

Wrong side of the Channel, Hemy painted Devon and Cornish boats, as well as the London River.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

I should imagine there was cross channel fertilization. The Breton's are very closely aligned with the Welsh and the Cornish are pretty close.

I can translate all the names of Vivier's boats.

    Nice pictures BTW

Possibly, but the French boats seem to be shorter for their beam and draft. It may be that the Atlantic seas create different conditions on the French side of the Western Approaches.

Likewise thanks. The color and texture of the water in the third one is amazing. How about the hats, Peerie? Differences between Anglais and frog chapeaux?

Wow! I really like that big black and white wherry painting. Looks like the water was really clear that day. Wonderful! Thanks for posting.
