This reminded me of how I used to get names of warships wrong at times. For example, I thought the WWII German battlecruiser Gneisenau was pronounced Nigh-sen-now, until I saw a short clip from a Nazi propaganda film and learned it was pronounced with a hard G, as Geh-nigh-sen-now.

As for Porsche, there's that great line from the Rod Stewart song True Blue: " Never gonna own a race horse, or a fast back mid-engine Porsche." Catchy beat and it rhymes, albeit pronounced wrong.

    Nike / Nikee.

Nikee is correct, but sounds dumb.

People should spell stuff how it's supposed to be pronounced, like Led Zeppelin.

Most people are morons, after all.

The problem I have with French. Paris is PARIS, it isn't Paree. Was it Paris or Paree who stole Helen of Troy, for example?

I have heard folks from Honda grump about pronouncing Hyundai with two syllables. They thought it was a deliberate effort to confuse "Hyundai" with "Honda". The logos on the hood give some credence to the claim.
