I had my vacation already, 3 weeks in Barbados. Spending a good part of the summer at the cottage, Ottawa is going to be nuts with the 150th. Might go to Boldt Castle a d Clayton NY for a weekend.

The way life has been of late, and looking at whats looming up, my best "vacation" is staying at home with my phone and computer switched off, spending time out in the shop with the radio on our equivalent of NPR and tools to hand.

I'm becoming much more of a homebody as I age. It's nice to have time at home, and I wouldn't live here if I didn't enjoy being here.

The last 2 years we've done a mid-winter overseas trip in the July school holiday.

We won't be doing the same this year - on Friday we're getting the final measure for new windows and external doors throughout the house, and after they've been fitted there's a new kitchen going in, and flooring through the laundry, kitchen, dining room and living room. After that we'll be rearranging our mortgage.

It's a bummer that we won't get a break because this summer was particularly lousy. We'll just have to make the most of the odd weekend here and there - after all, there's plenty of great places to see without travelling very far from home.

I had a week in Rarotonga last winter, and am still contemplating what warm place to visit this coming winter.

Werd? That's a short drive. I lived there for many years and always look for an excuse to go back.
If you have room in your schedule, hit me up.

We'll have to get together some kind of real darn party! Whoot whoot!
We have several small boats at your disposal, too, should you have time for all that.

I grew up in western Washington and am actually looking forward to some rain. As far as the landslides go, I will stay away from Magnolia bluff while I am in Seattle .

I am thinking of some great trips this year...

1). Ride to Mystic. Motels, camping and stopping along the way to various WBF houses. Don't be shy to offer a backyard and a couch. I am clean, have no convictions and have only shown signs of mental illness when it comes to wooden boats.

2). Ride highway 89from Flagstaff to Edmonton Canada then a detour to Port Townsend via Victoria and home.
    Same posting as above.

    Or

3). Complete my skin on frame Whitehall, and finally do the great drift down the upper Missouri through the Missouri Breaks.
Canoes, skiffs and other boats are welcome to join me if there is enough interest.

The world's big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark.

This float would be relatively inexpensive, truly epic, easy and so much fun. Great food. Camping. Photography.

    Okay.
    I'm in!
I just need a bike for the trip.
Got plenty of boats for the float. We do them little paddling types, see?

Nice to see you here again, by the by.

Our daughter will be in Italy helping to restore a 13th century church. Might go over and visit.

Going to Colorado in May and Iceland in August. I am also supposed to go to Shanghai in September on a work trip. Should be interesting.

3 months camping, rowing/pedalling/trolling motoring, fishing, hiking, reading mysteries, taking photos and videos of the wildlife and doing a bit of woodworking on the beach on an island off the NW coast of Vancouver Island. Just refinished the rowing boat, and spent way too much on a good camera and tripod. I may never come back.
