Current forecast for Mount Desert Island, ME is 8"-14" starting Tuesday morning. I will put the plow on the truck this afternoon. I will probably plow just before sunset tomorrow and then again Wednesday morning, OH JOY :<(

I'll work from home tomorrow... position the cars in the driveway to make it easier to get the snowblower out... and then wait for dusk on Tuesday to use it. The big question is whether it will end Tuesday evening, and whether it will turn to rain late on Tuesday.... if it does, it will be a misery; the snowblower doesn't handle slush very well.

Water temperature in the bay, right off my location, is 38F. In my backyard, it's 42F. I hope this has a calming effect on the snowfall.

We are right in the middle of the red. Yes! Nothing like a real snowstorm. With the snowblower fixed we are ready to go! Bring it on!

Gonna be 90 & Sunny today. Fixed a fuse for the grooming vans 40,000 btu interior AC. We went to brunch with some friends in San Clemente yesterday, the marine fog rolled in at the beach and as we sat outside it was a little chilly Renee needed to put on a light sweater it was that cold. eeeeek THE STRUGGLE IS REAL

The mountains in the northern part of the state got a bit of snow. Just chilly here today.
Tomorrow I need to sail my 26' sailboat to the next marina south for a haulout for the new owner. Of course the transporter is coming on the coldest day of the winter (27 degrees), with 20 knot winds. It'll be a very chilly 5 mile sail.
Oh well, at least she finally sold!

Warmer water temperatures will likely increase the water content of the storm.

The Northeast Weather Alert guy briefly backed off a bit, talking about a possible transition to rain at the tail end of the storm:

Please read this careful so I don't have to repeat myself, read it twice if you have to. Some of the Hi resolution short range models are hugging the coast with the surface low up to the Delmarva Peninsula, if this ends up being the case there would be some mixing in Washington, Baltimore Philadelphia, and mostly rain in South NJ from say Little Egg Harbor to Elsinboro, this mix would also move into eastern Long Island South east RI and SE Massachusetts.
But a couple of hours later, he has changed his mind:

Right. The snow has come and gone several times this winter, which is extremely unusual here.

You see that ugly red swatch there? That grey kinda square bit of map just to the NE is New Brunswick.

I'm sure glad the weather map predicts that the storm is gonna stop when it hits the Maine/New Brunswick border or we'd really be in for it. Strange how Canada doesn't seem to have any weather at all ...

Down here, we all just assume that your winter weather is going to be abysmal, so there's really no need for a forecast

    Watches

    10:36 AM ADT Monday 13 March 2017
Winter storm watch in effect for:

    • Fredericton and Southern York County

An intense low pressure system will approach the Maritimes from the southwest Tuesday and track through the Bay of Fundy to lie in the Gulf of St. Lawrence on Wednesday.

Heavy snow and blowing snow will move into southwestern New Brunswick Tuesday afternoon and spread to the remainder of the province in the evening. Snow will likely change to rain over extreme southern areas overnight Tuesday night. Most areas of the province will likely receive 20 to 30 centimetres of snowfall.

Precipitation will gradually taper to flurries on Wednesday as the low moves east of the province.
Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.
Stay calm, be brave....wait for the signs. Possibly precariously prevaricating.

Oh crap, I guess I should have checked before I made fun of TomF's weather forecast! Same system may have it's sights on us too.

    10:52 AM NDT Monday 13 March 2017
Special weather statement in effect for:

    • Green Bay - White Bay

Wintry weather expected on Wednesday and Thursday.

An intense low pressure system will cross the Maritime provinces mid-week and stall over the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Snow, blowing snow and strong east to southeasterly winds ahead of this system will push into southwestern Newfoundland overnight Tuesday night and spread to the remainder of the island on Wednesday morning. The precipitation is expected to change over to ice pellets or freezing rain and eventually over to rain throughout the day on Wednesday, except for the Great Northern Peninsula where it is expected to remain mainly as snow.

Strong winds are expected over much of the island with the highest gusts occurring along the south coast and areas of the west coast of Newfoundland prone to enhanced easterlies.
Stay calm, be brave....wait for the signs. Possibly precariously prevaricating.

I was thinking of that sail today Steven. Colder and windier and the Knckerbocker is NOT a dry boat. Now the forecast is for gusts to 30. I'm going to get a real early start and at least get the upwind leg done hopefully before it hits. The marina where I'm going is on a windward shore and should be calmer.

Stay safe up your way. Our flight schedules are in a state of turmoil I'm sure. Might try for some overtime Wednesday and Thursday as they try to get things back in order.

If the forecast is to be believed, there are signs on the Bourne, Railroad, and Sagamore bridges saying

NO HEAVY SNOW BEYOND THIS POINT

About 15 years ago I lost my Fiat Spider. Finally found the top by digging down about 2 ft. Lotta snow that winter.

Last night, our forecast was for 12-16" of snow. We got 2-3" overnight.

This morning the forecast is for 1-3" of ice pellets, through this evening.

The current wind is gusting to 10MPH from the NE. Temperature is 33F and forecast to go up to 36F.

The only accumulation is on the grass...nothing on the streets.

    Some blizzard.

Apparently, the big storm fell apart overnight, and is now being described as a 'bust'. A humbling demonstration that meteorology is NOT an exact science, I guess.

Regardless, I thought some people might enjoy this picture

That's great news for my son living on Long Island. Seems like the track of this storm is shifting west. Right towards me...
