Default Blizzard possibility for the Northeast on Tuesday

Hard to believe we'd get hit with a major snowstorm this late in the season, but the forecasters are indicating it. The weather nerd at Northeast Weather Alert is particularly attuned to the possibility of a blizzard in these here parts:

As Old Man Winter continues to show more teeth in the coming days, a storm could pack a heavy punch of snow and wind in the northeastern United States early next week.

"There is the potential for a major snowstorm, and possible nor'easter, from New York City to New England spanning Tuesday and Tuesday night," according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Henry Margusity.

Unlike most of this winter, the storm will have access to plenty of cold air as far south as the coastal mid-Atlantic region. The storm will follow some of the coldest weather of the winter in the Northeast this weekend.

I seem to remember that mid-March was when I began to work on the boat... sanding and painting the bottom, cleaning the topsides, etc. However, it seems that, in the past few years, the March weather has been tougher than it has historically been.

Let us know what the forecast is on Sunday night.

New England : "Don't like the weather? Wait a minute."

    and

New England : "The only place where you can experience 4 seasons in one day."

Hey, I've never yet made it through March without a dump of snow except those years when I lived in Victoria/Vancouver. It's what we do up here.

Yep. Frankly, I like my seasons. Would be boring if it was 80F and sunny all the time.

6"-10" predicted here. No problem. It's the mid April blizzards I can do without.

Yeah, well. You're not so long in that SoCal place that you've forgotten that there are 4 seasons, eh? I'm ready for Winter's end, every year. But I just adore how the forest wakes up in Spring, and the wildflowers and ferns have their silent orgies before the hardwoods leaf out. Or the same forests in Autumn, as the trees drop their pretence of chlorophyll and show the joy they've camouflaged behind the green for months. Helluva party they throw before a long sleep.

I liked the British Columbia coastal forests too, which have less seasonal change than we do but more than SoCal. But I really missed the sharp contrasts; the rhythmic anticipation, fulfillment, and recovery.

Sorry, it's my fault. I put the snowblower away.

I love winter, ya know, except for all that cold and snow.

On the coast, you'll probably just see rain.

Prediction is now up to 21" of snow for Tuesday/Wednesday. Right now it's 5 degrees F and wind blowing like hell. Time for the wife to bring in some more firewood...

Looks like you'll have some good spring skiing with a a dump of snow like that, Rich.

The ski resorts will love it. Their snow base took a real beating with the very warm and rainy days in late Feb.
I wouldn't mind a bit more skiing and snowshoeing before spring.

I am right on the edge of the yellow. A tiny shift to the north or west and I could get more rain/mix than snow.

Looks like Philly gets hit, but nowhere near like New England south. Oy! I remember selling a line of lighting products that was manufactured in Boston proper (down near the harbour) and not even being able to get them on the PHONE in '78 for four days, as they'd gotten snowed in and then their doors were sealed by ice melting and re-freezing.

Just about this time in '80 here in Philly, I walked out the front door and gazed upon an unbroken field of white, unbroken, that is, except for this thin blue protrusion which was my car's roof. Just a finger's width, but nice to know it was there. The VW bug across the street was locatable by the antenna shaft only.

Cold weather in New York state left one house completely encased in ice.

The home, on the shore of Lake Ontario, was captured by a local photographer after being battered by water whipped up from the lake by freezing winds.

12"-18" predicted for me. Snowblower is ready. Not a good time for my wood pellet stove to go on the fritz. Stupid thing filled the finished basement with smoke last evening. Could have caused a fire. Today, I'm going to have a spirited conversation with the store that sold it to me five years ago.
