    Default What'cha gonna do ...

    Confession time.

4 weeks behind on a delivering a boat for a first time customer and feeling guilty about it I thought I'd forego the vinyl decal, do something nice for the fellow, and splurge for handpainted lettering on the transom. On the morning of delivery I passed him on his bike which I thought was kinda good because he would see the boat on the trailer and get a sense of her out of the shop and a bit of distance.

5 minutes after I pulled into the delivery lot I watched him arrive, red faced and out of breath. He was obviously not happy. And for good reason. We'd painted Debbie Do on the transom. His wife's name was Betty. Ooops. The kicker is that he'd approved the artwork for the decal which did say Betty Do. If only I'd stuck with vinyl. Harrumph.

I'm guessing there might be a few others of you with similar stories.

    Funny!

I don't think that 4 weeks is all that late.

Could have been worse........... Debbie Does...??

(But really, what sort of a name is Betty Do anyway? I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone who sees it reads it and thinks: Doggy Do)

I too find it easier to remember the boats we meet, and the boat names, than the names of the people sailing them.

Working for a signmaker, some 20 years ago, me and my mate Dave were about 70' up above the street, bonding 24" letters to a glass façade on a fancy building.

Dave says to me "you know with this glue, once they're on they'll never come off again"

I say to Dave "That's perfect Dave – we've just spelled 'Restaurant' wrong"

That was an oops moment if ever there was one!

Real boats have their names carved in and then gilded. Just sayin.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

A sign painter should always have a spel checker close at hand!
