      Re: 15' Catboats.

Broker tells me there's a guy interested in the Knickerbocker. Maybe an offer this weekend.
If she goes it'll be serious shopping time.
A few Fisher Cats available. Nice looking boats.
The Sandpiper is top of list, but finding a used one.....
The one on Long Island sold already. Was kinda looking forward to a road trip as was my wife.

        Re: 15' Catboats.

I am very happy with my Handy Cat. My only issue is that the rig is hard enough that it takes two of us to put it up. Since we trailer sail it that makes things more difficult, but the boat and rig are great.

I bought off of the catboat association website. I would recommend this class to people.

I looked over the one in Stone Harbor NJ when I visited Russ and Sjogin a year ago at this time (which was a GREAT road trip!). It's in very good shape and kept indoors. See the bottom of the list here: http://www.catboats.org/page/SneakPreviews171

Mike of Boat Design Quarterly has mentioned on a number of occasions that chine hulled catboats tend to have severe weather helm plus making the bottom panel fastened to the stem is very, very hard. Although I have not sailed one, I believe he is right. That's why I'm building a Bolger designed Harbinger.

I think that depends on how you do it. You have to keep the beam far enough forward, and it helps if you keep the bilges a bit slack, like this:

Mind you, I'm just amateur messing around with Delftship, but I think a good stitch and glue catboat can be done.

There's a Sandpiper for sale in MA. I'll be up in PVD after Christmas. Gonna go have a look.

Have you talked to Tony at Arey's Pond Boatyard? They are all about catboats there. http://areyspondboatyard.com/brokerage/

Got to see a Sandpiper and a Fisher today. The Marshall is a lot more boat, and I like the 200# of internal ballast. Gonna make an offer on the Marshall.

How easy is it to step and unstep the mast on that boat? That's the one possible negative I see in it.

Mast hinges (tabernacle fittings) are available for Marshall cats: http://www.marshallcat.com/html/tabernacle_mast1.html

And they can be retrofitted. If I get her I will get Marshall to do so.

You probably know but note that the hinge can only be retrofitted to boats that have the post-1980 masts.
