Well, m son is still traveling...now in Europe.
His kayak without the coaming was really bugging me ....so I have decided to make it.

somehow we never bought foot braces - I guess I didn't think they were really needed - but they are! That's what allows paddler to "brace" in the kajak and makes it more stable and controllable. For some reason I remember the price from CLC being very expensive - that's was a part of decision not to go that way.
Last night got a pair from eBay for $20.10 - no mounting hardware.......went to CLC web site to check the price for their product - $26.50 with the hardware........not that much difference - not sure why I remember braces being expensive....
Here is the eBay set from Attwood Marine - I may go with CLC set for my kayak.

added 2 posts for lifting / towing the kayak

they have 1/8 diameter pegs epoxied in the decks, seems pretty strong bond, strong enough to lift the kayak, the holes strengthened by brass rings - 1/2" and 21/32" diameter

had this kayak dolly idea ,,,,, started working on today......it will also double as a foot brace......figure out already that current width is at least an inch too wide - does not go inside the kayak.
Another dilemma is how to connect the last horizontal 1 1/4 diameter element - just like the shorter two?....

joints will be enforced with epoxied 1/2" wooden dowels, wheels will have SS threaded rod epoxied in the wooden frame

Needs paint/varnish.....maybe additional brace to keep dolly in place for reverse towing

I love it! I think maybe my wife's kayak could use the same thing, maybe larger diameter wheels for rough terrain.
thank you Ober!
Still working on the design, here using a piece of laminated WRC strips - from earlier failed project - fits the kayak curve just right. Have a piece of trailer bunk carpet under it. I think with the curved and flat top part, may keep the dolly in place - still working on ideas to attach the dolly to the coaming........

Looks nice. Is the bushing copper, or bronze?
keeping up with a tradition of this tread.......writing and sipping on mead (drinkable honey) made by my nephew Tomek in Poland - a very fine mead indeed !
Jablczak = apple - fruit honey
Szostak = one unit of honey, two units of water - Made in 2015
Alcohol content - about 12%

Ober - I am using a bronze pipe - wall thickness .014 ..................just because you can get it off e-bay in 12" length........versus a more than you need ( 30' or so) in copper from home Depot
..............and since I am working on a boat (OK, kayak) that's where bronze is used - copper = bathrooms
Can you tell that I am having lots of fun with this post?

first "eye" came out all right - the tube could be a little longer, not the same lip width on each side.
wrong wood.jpg
................but the second one just plain didn't work. I am going back to madrona wood, and need to get a few different size balls - the ballpein hammers just not doing it in my book.
Dang it!
Hours of work for nothing....
Well, I should say: for this valuable experience!
