What most of us mean is that the police should be de-militarized and more resources put into mental health & drug & family issues

Gotta disagree. It completely alienated many folks who would've supported the ideas under a different name/slogan. It was a major tactical error & set back work on redefining public safety by years.

No - it did not work. It riled up the opposition, gave them a rallying point, & turned off many who would've supported the concepts under a different name. IMO, it set back police reform years.

Liberal Democratic PR is hampered by at least gestures towards truth. Racist Right Republican PR has felt no such inhibitions since "rum, rebellion, and Romanism'; since "I have a list of (XXX) card carrying communists in the state department"; since Reagan fabricated his "Welfare Queen."
