For those who can't hear over the din of the Trump political bandwagon, here in Canada we are having an election. A nationally-televised political party leader's debate was held on Monday evening. At his first opportunity to speak - some two minutes into the debate - the Conservative Party leader, Andrew Scheer, took a page from Trump-style politics (the Conservatives have hired a couple of the folks that helped Trump get elected to advise them on their campaigning) and lambasted Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with a series of insults that, in any other facet of modern life, would have garnered a charge of slander. The next day (yesterday) it came out that Scheer has maintained dual Canadian-US citizenship (his father was a US citizen) because he "had not had time yet to disavow his US citizenship". While not technically illegal here in Canada, it doesn't sit well with the Conservatives' mantra of Canadian nationalism. Our hometown hero cartoonist, Bruce McKinnon, brought forth another cartoon that cuts to the quick of the matter:

Trudeau is actually a liar and a fraud as well as likely being open to charges of obstruction of justice. Scheer is not much of a candidate but he better than Trudeau.

Scheer has that trumpish, right wing, rich boy smirk that I detest and Trudeau? I merely dislike him. My local mp is a hard working good man. He's represented my riding for over 10 years and seems to really care about his constituents, so I happily vote for him ,not the party leader.That's the way Canadian politics are supposed to work.

I love Bernie. But I'd call this 'edgy and rude - but funny', rather than 'repugnant'.

And the Sanders 'feel the chest pain' isn't repugnant at all. Rude, yes, but political cartoons often are. Electing a 78-year-old guy who just had a heart attack has real objective disadvantages
