I'm afraid I don't get #495. Is it Canadian humor?

"U.S. President Donald Trump slammed Canada’s trade practices for the first time, vowing to call Canadian officials to demand changes to dairy policies Wisconsin farmers say threaten their livelihoods.

“We are also going to stand up for our dairy farmers in Wisconsin. And I’ve been reading about it, I’ve been talking about it for a long time, and that demands, really, immediately, fair trade, with all of our trading partners. And that includes Canada,” he said Tuesday, raising his voice to emphasize the country.

“Because in Canada, some very unfair things have happened to our dairy farmers and others.”

He did not specifically identify what he was talking about in his unscripted musings, which came during a Wisconsin speech in which he touted “Buy American” policies that are opposed by Canada."

I am amazed by how simplistically he speaks. "very unfair things"? It's like he's always speaking to a 10 year old.

I'm aware of the dairy issue between Trump's Wisconsin dairy deplorables and Canada, but what does that have to do with Beaver?

The beaver is the national symbol of Canada. The cartoon depicts Trump attempting to milk a Canadian beaver for personal gain.

Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

Sorry. It's a short video and not a cartoon, but I think many will like it:

Perhaps the cartoon depicts Trump performing an unnatural act. The Beaver's eyes would seem to denote surprise. Trump's sideways glance would seem to indicate a check that nobody is looking, eh? Got'ta give Trump credit, however, for picking on a beaver instead of a porcupine, eh?

    For Nick Scheuer and WszystekPoTrochu:

The beaver is the national symbol of Canada. Canada has a nationally-controlled milk supply production system that was implemented years ago to overcome a historical cycle of boom-and-bust market cycles that frequently bankrupted family dairy farms. The dairy industry in north-central USA has not been happy with this because they want the Canadian dairy market to be more open to their milk products. Last week Trump was in US dairy country (Wisconsin, I believe), and in an election-campaign style speech decried the Canadian milk industry and declared that he was going to fix it. Pretty much everybody up here is certain that this was just typical Trumpian posturing, telling the Wisconsin farmers what they wanted to hear so that he looks good, hence the "milking the Canadian beaver for his own self aggrandizement".

    Clear now?

I appreciate the explanation mmd. On nearly any issue one might care to identify, Trump will be on the wrong side. Wisconsin dairy farmers also don't like all the TV ads California dairy industry is running every evening. Ya'got'ta hand it to Wisconsin for one thing, at least; they are the only source for yellow foam hats molded to look like a block of cheese; hence the name "Cheeseheads".

Just as addendum to Michael's remarks: Trump is too ignorant to understand our own Dairy Price Support Program and the associated Milk Income Loss Contract, neither of which is called farm welfare by rural Republicans. Agricultural economics is a very complex subject. Suffice it to say that all industrial nations have found governmental programs necessary to smooth out the market.

Considering it's Trump, I thought that Beaver thing might have sexual connotations, but refrained from comment because this is a family forum.
